"Waiting" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season five. In this episode, SpongeBob waits for a toy to arrive in the mail.

SpongeBob discovers that his breakfast cereal has an offer for a free toy. Once he responds to the offer, he must wait patiently for the toy to arrive. SpongeBob grows impatient, so he sets up camp right next to his mailbox, determined to be present when the mailman shows up with his special treasure. He gets frustrated when Sandy and Gary distract him with karate and feeding. Eventually, the toy arrives, but Patrick "breaks" it, leaving SpongeBob furious. However, Squidward shows him later that its head, arms, and legs are supposed to spring off, and reattaches them. SpongeBob and Patrick then hug Squidward, asking if there is anything they could for him, and Squidward replies that they should move to another neighborhoodTemplate:Section-Expand

  • This is considered one of the worst episodes because of SpongeBob's behavior to his friends, and MoBrosStudios says the episode is "about as entertaining as watching a mailbox for 7 minutes." On PIEGUYRULZ's video of "Every Season 5 episode reviewed, he called this a ScumBob episode because he stated "SpongeBob refuses to have a plot."

  • The title card shows 11 still pictures of SpongeBob's toy.
  • This episode was featured right after the 2007 Kids' Choice Awards, due to it ending 13 minutes earlier than planned.
  • The episode's plot is loosely based on the SpongeBob book "Special Delivery!" found here: [1]

Cultural References

  • The box saying "Free prize offer inside" is a parody of cereal boxes that frequently make that claim. Since you must actually send in several box tops (and shipping fees) to get the toy it is not actually "free" and "inside"; you have to buy the cereal to get it and not actually inside. It should not say it should be inside if it's not really inside the box.

  • The mark with the "FREE PRIZE INSIDE" before SpongeBob took it was orange when he read it, it turned pinkish-red.
  • During the scene where Sandy asks SpongeBob to do some karate and he refuses, Sandy is wearing red karate gloves instead of the usual green.
