Welcome to another SpongeBob review! This time, I'm going to review SpongeBob LongPants. Some have criticized this episode for being all over the place. Do I stand by that? Let's find out!
I should go ahead and get this out of the way. This is the Season 6 episode, To SquarePants or Not To SquarePants, done right, as the portrayal of the characters in this episode is much more believable than in that episode.
This episode has a few new characters introduced in it that are quite entertaining, such as the Pants salesman, and the fancy fish SpongeBob (or Sponge Robert) hangs out with. I may like to see them again in a future episode.
As for this episode being all over the place, I don't mind it. As shocking as that might be, considering the problems I had with Night Light, which I just reviewed a few days ago, I think the focus is meant to be what SpongeBob wearing LongPants can do and how they can harm him, while in Night Light, the idea of SpongeBob being afraid of the dark was pretty much dropped completely in the last third of the episode, and became a MM&BB episode.
The episode also has some funny gags, like the two brief scenes with Mrs. Puff, how SpongeBob was driving his boat to get his license, and the movie SpongeBob watches with his fancy friends. One could argue that scene had Squidward torture in it, but it was Squidward torture done right, as Squidward did something wrong to deserve being kicked out of the movie theater, which was shouting too loud.
One scene I didn't like was while SpongeBob was trying to entertain the Krusty Krab customers. Some of the things the customers do are gross, but then again, nowhere near as gross as The Splinter or Fungus Among Us, which are two episodes I had just previously reviewed.
Overall, this was a great episode, and while it may not be one of my favorites from Season 9B, it's still fun to watch.
