Here I will review season 3 episode-by-episode. My ratings are Amazing, Great, Good, Meh, and Bad, ordered from best to worst. Let us begin!

41a: The Algae's Always Greener[]

This is just a brilliant episode to kick off a brilliant season. The lines are brilliantly delivered ("what, it's just an ordinary Krabby — OH MY GOODNESS!" or "good grief he's naked!") and the plot is very interesting as well. Nothing bad to say about this episode (just warning you in advance, I don't have a lot to comment on for the majority of the episodes of this season, so the reviews will be shorter than usual).

Rating: Amazing

41b: SpongeGuard on Duty[]

The plot is hilarious and reminds me a bit of the future episode Party Pooper Pants (both involve SpongeBob going completely paranoid and acting like a control freak). There are great lines here ("put that thing away, there are like, children here!" and it's just extremely funny all-around.

Rating: Amazing

42a: Club SpongeBob[]

I was close to giving this a rating of Great but I ultimately decided against it. The plot gets a little dull but the writers keep the episode going with brilliant, well-timed jokes ("we've gotta drop the load!"), and seeing Squidward slowly go insane and finally submit to the will of the conch was hilarious.

Rating: Amazing

42b: My Pretty Seahorse[]

Full of brilliant lines all over the place, which make this episode an extreme success. Most notably, I cite "dude, where's the coin slot on this thing" and "just get out of here, you stupid, dumb animal" as the episode's funniest quotes. The scene at the Krusty Krab is hilarious (the bowl of onions... lol) as well as the final scene, with Patrick trying to walk into the hat store.

Rating: Amazing

43a: The Bully[]

Hilarious episode, I love that SpongeBob stays in character the whole time by initially trying to resolve the situation by being the nice guy he usually is and then stopping his classmates from cheering after Flats passes out. There are many good lines, such as when SpongeBob is running through the city: "HE'S GONNA KICK MY BUTT!"..."how many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?"... "I love the young people!". Great classic.

Rating: Amazing

43b: Just One Bite[]

Very funny episode in which we begin to see Squidward overcome his grouchy side because of the positive influence of the Krabby Patties. Seeing him fall in love with the patties is hilarious, as well as the scene when he goes to the Patty Vault to eat. There are many well-written scenes, such as at the beginning when Squidward quietly insults the customer and of course, the famous line at the end "it'll go straight to your thighs!".

Rating: Amazing

44a: Nasty Patty[]

Probably the darkest episode we've had so far, as it involves SpongeBob and Krabs literally trying to get away with the fact that (they think) they committed a murder. That said, the jokes are very funny in here, combined with their attempts to hide the health inspector's body (SpongeBob putting the body in his hat, him and Krabs trying to bury the inspector in the sand, etc.). This is funny all-around.

Rating: Amazing

44b: Idiot Box[]

Very classic episode with a stupid (in a good way) plot that worked out tremendously for this episode. What really makes this one extremely enjoyable are the sound effects from the box (mountain climbing, "no Johnny, don't do it!", robot pirate island, the shuttle launch), which are perfectly chosen. Nothing negative to comment on this one at all.

Rating: Amazing

45a: Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV[]

This episode is awesome for giving birth to the "Wumbo" meme, which has survived for fifteen years and counting since introduction. The plot is hilarious, as well. The scene with SpongeBob attempting to fix Squidward after shrinking him is a bit gruesome but in a funny way. The ending scene with Plankton arriving is simply brilliant as well.

Rating: Amazing

45b: Doing Time[]

This episode had a very funny plot with amazing jokes and scenes throughout. The bank robbery scene is an instant classic, as is the part when the boats crash into the fruit punch truck near the retirement home. I would give this an Amazing rating if not for the ending. It appears that the episode is multiple dreams enclosed inside of one, and it is not apparent at all what actually happened; it seemed like a cheap copout for the writers to fill time. This is the only negative with the episode, and unfortunately it is quite substantial, so I have to factor it into my rating.

Rating: Great

46a: Snowball Effect[]

The plot reminds me of season 1 episodes as it is an episode built around one concept, being the snowball fight, and taking place primarily on Conch Street; we've seen many of these in season 1, such as Bubblestand and The Paper. I think this episode did it better due to having more jokes and a more interesting plot overall. The opening scene involving the Bikini Bottomites reacting to the snow was very funny, especially Plankton ("I WISH TO RULE YOU!") and the fight itself was quite hilarious.

Rating: Amazing

46b: One Krabs Trash[]

Like Nasty Patty, this one was a very dark episode as well, since Krabs was willing to defile a grave for money. The jokes in this one are hilarious ("IT'S A FLOATING SHOPPING LIST!") as well as SpongeBob not understanding Mr. Krabs' insult at all ("that hat makes you look like a girl." ... "am I a pretty girl?"). Overall, I like the darker episodes from this season. I wish we could see more episodes like that, but I imagine there weren't many more because Nickelodeon objected to these kinds of episodes on a kids network.

Rating: Amazing

47a: As Seen on TV[]

SpongeBob's personality is hilarious here and likely a satire of Hollywood stars, considering the writers likely work around them. It's hilarious how his belief that he's a famous star stick around even at the end ("I can't believe I gave up fry cooking for this!"). The striped sweater song is also one of the best moments of the show.

Rating: Amazing

47b: Can You Spare a Dime?[]

Very funny episode in which we see a much different side of SpongeBob, justifiable by Squidward mooching off SpongeBob for a long time. Squidward's ultra-specific demands ("that lemon has THREE SEEDS in it!") are hilarious, as is the innuendo related to the maid costume. The ending is very funny as well. Nothing negative to say about this one.

Rating: Amazing

48a: No Weenies Allowed[]

Hilarious episode with a great plot and many memorable lines. I thought the little scene where SpongeBob was trying to pick a fight with Patrick and he had to read the word "kickboxing" off his hand was extremely brilliant, as well as the lines "we spent 3 days making that potato salad!", "nobody calls me tubby!", and "I'll have you know I stubbed my toe while watering my spice garden and I only cried for 20 minutes". SpongeBob's attempts to get into the Salty Spitoon were similarly hilarious, as were his interactions at the Weenie stores.

Rating: Amazing

48b: Squilliam Returns[]

This has a similar yet very different plot as Band Geeks; both involve Squidward trying to show up Squilliam, but whereas Band Geeks results in Squidward winning, he loses in this episode. Regardless, this one is still very funny, as the plot is entertaining and the humor is fantastic. Patrick is hilarious here ("I thought the Corps would help me straighten out my life, SIR!") as well as SpongeBob ("fine dining... and breathing"... the scene inside his mind is brilliant as well: "no, please! I have 3 kids!"), as well as Mr. Krabs with his tiny violin. This one is packed with humor all around.

Rating: Amazing

49a: Krab Borg[]

I like this episode because we rarely get to see SpongeBob and Squidward ally together on a unified front for a single purpose; their chemistry is great together. There are many hilarious scenes in here: "SpongeBob, call the navy!"... "hello, you have reached the navy's automated phone service"... "SQUIDWARD, THE ROBOTS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE NAVY!"... "NOT THE NAVY!". This one cracks me up every time. SpongeBob attempting to prove that Mr. Krabs is a robot by doing the love/cry/laugh tests is hilarious as well.

Rating: Amazing

49b: Rock-a-Bye Bivalve[]

This episode was somewhat controversial as it portrayed SpongeBob and Patrick like a gay couple, but that's what makes this one so funny for me, as this isn't normally a kind of episode you would find on a kids network. There are so many good jokes in this one resulting from the contrast between SpongeBob and Patrick's personalities as they try to raise the scallop, and the ending line is hilarious ("let's have another!") too.

Rating: Amazing

50a: Wet Painters[]

Very funny plot with great jokes all the way through. ("we're not cavemen... we have... TECHNOLOGY!" or "oh, I know! Two giant paint bubbles!") This was one of those extremely consistent episodes that there's really nothing negative at all you can say about it.

Rating: Amazing

50b: Krusty Krab Training Video[]

This one is very interesting because it is a more "meta" approach to SpongeBob's job. The narrator was funny (I liked his voice a lot) as were the other characters ("are you just going to stand there and make friends with the paneling?"). Same deal as Wet Painters, there's not too much I can write about it just because of how consistently good it is.

Rating: Amazing

51: Party Pooper Pants[]

The only reason I give this episode the rating I'll give it is because of Patchy. I like his character, but when his segments (which aren't too interesting) take up well over a third of the entire twenty-two minute block, I unfortunately have to factor it into my rating. The animated portion is fantastic, however, and would certainly warrant an Amazing rating on its own. The humor is fantastic; we haven't really seen this side of SpongeBob before, so seeing him try to keep his party in order was hilarious. Plankton's attempt to steal the formula was subtle and hilarious as a result; SpongeBob getting arrested for not inviting the cops to the party was similarly very funny and an excellent satire of the police service, and SpongeBob's party prep was very funny too. Oh Patchy, why must you have such a large presence in such a good episode?

Rating: Great

52a: Chocolate with Nuts[]

One of the most brilliant episodes of the entire show. This contains so many iconic lines ("I got it... let's get naked!") and scenes with the Bikini Bottomites (the "injured" guy, the old lady and her mom, etc.) and of course, the famous CHOCOLATE!!!! guy. Timeless classic that's clearly one of the best of the series.

Rating: Amazing

52b: Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V[]

The best Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy episode to date. I love that we are introduced to the IJLSA in this episode, as this is the first we've seen of a superhero team (other than MM&BB themselves), as well as the EVIL group highlighted by Barnacle Boy. The commissioner is also a very funny character, and the setting of the second half (Make-Out Reef) is hilarious. There are also many great lines in here ("we want world domination! WORLD DOMINATION!"... "yeah, and make him eat dirt!") to add even more great material to an already fantastic episode.

Rating: Amazing

53a: New Student Starfish[]

I love the direction that the two primary boating school episodes of this season (this and The Bully, not counting Doing Time since it's not primarily at school) take because they make the school seem more like a real educational establishment, making it more relatable to viewers. It was very funny seeing SpongeBob and Patrick get in a fight and then ultimately learn to have to work together to save Roger (this is a great moral, as well) and the episode contains great jokes as well (the "24" one and "light bulb! but why must it be so far away?!")

Rating: Amazing

53b: Clams[]

Hilarious plot. The gag with the orchestra is extremely brilliant ("it's a 4/4 string ostinato in D minor! every sailor knows that means death!") as well as when SpongeBob reels back his net and yanks away things around Squidward, including his nose. The ending is very funny, too.

Rating: Amazing

54: Ugh[]

Similar deal as Party Pooper Pants. The animated segment was hilarious and very unique for this show. I enjoyed the section with SpongeGar, Patar, and Squog looking at the fire with an ominous barbershop quartet singing in the background. The Patchy segments were pretty boring though, besides the joke that cut into the present day ("I have a feeling that somewhere, a pirate and a parrot are arguing about me... and the parrot is winning!"). Other than that, the episode is solid.

Rating: Great

55a: The Great Snail Race[]

Hilarious episode on all fronts with a good plot and great jokes. Lightning Larry Luciano was a really funny character and the joke involving Sandy was absolutely genius, one of the smartest things I've seen on this show. Although some think the part with Gary exploding was a bit iffy, I didn't mind it because Gary ended up being fine at the end after Snellie went after him (very cute scene), and SpongeBob learned his lesson for training Gary too hard. The running gag with Squidward's name was hilarious as was the final scene when Rocky won.

Rating: Amazing

55b: Mid-Life Crustacean[]

Great plot here, nice that we get to see some of Bikini Bottom's "nightlife". The jokes are brilliant, such as "Patrick, that's not a ride!" and the famous panty raid at the end. The ending twist is hilarious as well. There's nothing bad to comment here, this is funny the whole way through.

Rating: Amazing

56a: Born Again Krabs[]

Very funny episode in which Mr. Krabs learns a valuable lesson about greed. The plot was very funny in this one, and seeing Mr. Krabs act generous (even if he thought it was all a dream) was hilarious. The Dutchman also had a very entertaining role in here, and the scene with him and SpongeBob after the latter is sold is hilarious.

Rating: Amazing

56b: I Had an Accident[]

This was one of those weirder episodes that managed to be extremely hilarious. There are many great gags in this episode, such as the seven mile spanking machine and the gorilla ("George they're onto us!"). SpongeBob was a bit unnecessarily mean to his friends (but not in a direct way here), but he ended up overcoming his fear of the outside and "saved" them. The ending scene with the family watching the show is hilarious as well, just like most of the other live action scenes in this show.

Rating: Amazing

57a: Krabby Land[]

This episode is hilarious from start to finish, and also the first episode I watched. Mr. Krabs' moneygrubbing schemes are taken to a new extent here as he attempts to scam children into playing at his low-quality amusement park, but he eventually gets what he deserves. His greed throughout the episode is hilarious ("What about the MONEY? ...I mean the CHILDREN!"), but my favorite scene was SpongeBob torturing himself for the kids' amusement, that was just hilarious. Different style of humor than we've usually seen, but still very effective.

Rating: Amazing

57b: The Camping Episode[]

If you've read my previous blogs, you'll already know what rating this episode gets since I listed it as my favorite episode of the entire series. This is a genius episode, with classic lines and moments in every part of the episode. The sea bear attack is hilarious, and what makes it funnier are SpongeBob's quotes ("That was an oval! It has to be a circle!"). Absolutely perfect episode on all regards.

Rating: Amazing

58a: Missing Identity[]

I liked this episode, although it doesn't hold up to the standard of quality in this season simply because the plot is a bit boring and it gets somewhat repetitive seeing SpongeBob do the same thing over and over to retrace his steps. There are some good jokes though, such as at the Snailpo headquarters when the Peterson guy says "I feel... a disturbance" and the bank robber: "alright, nobody move! This is a bank robbery! ATTICA!".

Rating: Great

58b: Plankton's Army[]

The jokes are great, such as those involving Plankton's first name (Sheldon). His family members themselves are hilarious and not exactly the kind of people we'd expect to be related by blood to an evil genius. Plankton's like "felicitation, malefactors! I am endeavoring to misappropriate the formulary for production of affordable comestibles! Who will join me?!" is hilarious and brilliantly written as well. Awesome episode all-around.

Rating: Amazing

59: The Sponge Who Could Fly[]

Unlike season 3's other specials, the Patchy segments are actually funny. The beginning with the treasure hunt through the playground is hilarious, as well as the scene when he destroys all his SpongeBob things after seeing the "Lost Episode" (the hilarious walking scene), and the mariachi band at the end. The animated portion is a bit weaker; the townspeople act like a jerk to SpongeBob for no apparent reason and the songs get to be a bit too much.

Rating: Great

60a: SpongeBob Meets the Strangler[]

Amazing plot here, and quite dark, though not as much as Nasty Patty. It's hilarious how SpongeBob thinks the Strangler is the bodyguard and how he eventually drives him insane (6 hours with his cleats in the strangler's corneas, 2 "surprise parties"), and the ending with Patrick ("hey Mac, what're you in for?") is just brilliant.

Rating: Amazing

60b: Pranks a Lot[]

Very funny episode with a wacky plot suitable for SpongeBob. SpongeBob and Patrick freaking out the Bikini Bottomites is hilarious, as well as their sequences of bad puns in the beginning. The prostitution joke at the end is hilarious as well and it's one I did not get until watching it many years later.

Rating: Amazing

Conclusion[]

  • Amazing: 32
  • Great: 5
  • Good: 0
  • Meh: 0
  • Bad: 0

With a VAST majority of the episodes receiving ratings of amazing, the entire season definitely deserves an overall rating of Amazing. This is my favorite season out of the bunch but honestly, this review was extremely boring to write because I basically said the same thing for every episode, lol. Ctrl-F tells me I used the word "hilarious" 40 times, "funny" 24 times, and "brilliant" 13 times.
