Tom is a generic fish who first appeared in the episode "Ripped Pants" where he is among the large crowd on the beach. He wears a purple shirt and blue pants. He was given the name "Tom" in "Patty Hype." He is heard with a woman's voice in "Doing Time" and "The Sponge Who Could Fly". He has been voiced by both Dee Bradley Baker and Doug Lawrence.
Notable roles
His first major appearance with a distinct role is in "Pizza Delivery", where he, though colored red in the episode, is the customer who orders the pizza. When SpongeBob and Squidward finally reach his house, however, he becomes really unncecessarily mad because they "forgot" his drink, which he didn't even order (although it is possible that Mr. Krabs hung up on him before he could order the drink) and refuses to take the pizza, making Spongebob cry. Squidward, in a rare moment of standing up for Spongebob, angrily shoves the pizza (including the box) into Tom's face, saying "Well, this one's on the house!"
In "Chocolate with Nuts," by far his most famous appearance, Tom is the first customer Spongebob and Patrick attempt to sell chocolate to, resulting in this famous scene:
- Spongebob: Good afternoon, sir! Could we interest you in some CHOCOLATE?
- Tom: Chocolate? Did you say CHOCOLATE?
- Patrick: Yes, sir! With or without nuts.
- Tom: Chocolate?! CHOCOLATE?! CHOOOOOOOCOLAAAAATE!!!!" (Repeatedly screams "Chocolate" insanely while chasing Spongebob and Patrick.)
He continues to stalk them throughout the episode, until at the end where he attacks Spongebob and Patrick shortly after they had bought even more chocolate from the con man. It appears that he is going to kill them, until he says (reverting back to his normal voice and appearance) that he simply wants to buy all of their chocolate.
- In "No Weenies Allowed", he is seen at Goo Lagoon with Nancy and a child, suggesting that they might be married.
- Tom is a bartender at Goo Lagoon in "MuscleBob BuffPants".
- In "The Lost Mattress", he has a job as a mattress salesman. He is also a cameraman for the Bikini Bottom News. He is a regular customer of the Krusty Krab, where he is seen most often.
- In "Pranks a Lot", Tom drives a tour bus in Bikini Bottom.
- In "Breath of Fresh Squidward," he is shown to have a daughter, and is married to an orange fish with a purple dress.
- In "Party Pooper Pants" he was the last guest to arrive at SpongeBob's party with only one bag of chips.
- In "I Had an Accident", Tom is seen in an "iron butt" complaining, "Oh man, It itches" as the doctor shows SpongeBob what might become of him if he "broke" his butt again.
- In "Sun Bleached", he was rejected from Craig Mammalton's party due to not having the tan minimum.
