2012 is a leap year like the previous years 2004, 2008, and 2000. It is the second year to contain a two-week episode premiere event after New-New-New-New-New Week in 2007. Like 2008, the first episode of this year didn't premiere until March. It is possible for this to happen in 2016 as well. It was believed that the first new episode this year wouldn't premiere until May 4 . In fact, no episodes aired in May, again. This is the 7th year in a row to have episodes premiere on the day of KCA or at least near the day of KCA.

- July 15: Another encore of the Mermaidmanathon aired from 9-11 am.
- July 21: Extreme Spots, Squirrel Record, Demolition Doofus, and Face Freeze! premiered.
- August 28: Ghouls Fools DVD is released.
- September 3: The Good Krabby Name and Squid Baby premiered.
- September 7: License to Milkshake premiered.
- September 8: The Boating school marathon aired with the following episodes: New Student Starfish, Nautical Novice, Boating School, Hall Monitor, Procrastination, Professor Squidward, License to Milkshake and Squid Baby.
- September 25: Friend or Foe?, SpongeBob's Altantis SquarePantis, SpongeBob vs. The Big One, The Seascape Capers, and Pest of the West DVDs were re-released as part of the Super Square Collection.
