2012 (MMXII) is a leap year like the previous years 2004, 2008, and 2000. It is the second year to contain a two-week episode premiere event after New-New-New-New-New Week in 2007. Like 2008, the first episode of this year didn't premiere until March. It is possible for this to happen in 2016 as well. It was believed that the first new episode this year wouldn't premiere until May 4 . In fact, no episodes aired in May, again. This is the 7th year in a row to have episodes premiere on the day of KCA or at least near the day of KCA.

March 31: Are You Happy Now? and Planet of the Jellyfish premiered, when the Kids' Choice Awards 2012 premiered.
April 2: Restraining SpongeBob premiered.
April 3: Glove World R.I.P. premiered.
April 4: Home Sweet Rubble premiered.
April 5: Fiasco! premiered.
April 6: Free Samples premiered.
April 9: InSPONGEiac premiered.
April 10: Treats! premiered.
April 11: Squiditis premiered.
April 12: For Here or to Go premiered.
April 13: Karen 2.0 premiered.
July 11: The Mermaidmanathon was aired with eight Mermaid Man themed SpongeBob episodes.
July 14: An encore of the mermaidmanathon aired.
July 15: Another encore of the Mermaidmanathon aired from 9-11 am.
July 21: Extreme Spots, Squirrel Record, Demolition Doofus, and Face Freeze! premiered.
September 3: The Good Krabby Name and Squid Baby premiered.
September 7: License to Milkshake premiered.
September 8: The Boating school marathon aired with the following episodes: New Student Starfish, Nautical Novice, Boating School, Hall Monitor, Procrastination, Professor Squidward, License to Milkshake and Squid Baby.
October 8: Hello Bikini Bottom! premiered.
October 14: Gary's New Toy and Super Evil Aquatic Villain Team Up Is Go! premiered.
October 21: Move It or Lose It and Chum Fricassee premiered.
October 27 : Eek, An Urchin! and Patrick-Man premiered.
November 17: Bumper to Bumper premiered.
November 23: It's a SpongeBob Christmas! premiered on CBS and YTV.
December 6: It's a SpongeBob Christmas! premiered on Nick.
