2008 (MMVIII) is a leap year of the Gregorian calendar that started on a Tuesday. No new episodes aired until March 3, with the season 6 episode "Krabby Road."

2008 was the year that Wanqum took over for the animating, and the year that hand drawn pencils for animating were ditched in favor of said company. Many fans consider this year to be one the worst of SpongeBob, (the others being 2010 and 2012) because of episodes such as The Splinter, Penny Foolish, House Fancy, and Boating Buddies.
