My dad watched it with me and instantly hated it (my whole family loves Spongebob) my dad has his own list of the worst episodes. He said it's one of the worst episodes because of the fact Squidward was acting like a 15 month old baby and the diapers Spongebob has to change. And yes they are I didn't like the advice the doctor gave too (I mean his head was swollen and ice healed it). Why didn't the doctor say to put ice on the head to prevent swelling?

Yeah seriously. I was like "Wait! This is not Doc McStuffins" (they do the same). Besides when you hear "itis" it means "infection". Like "Conjunctivitis" which is an eye infection. Is it possible? Is he impersonating a doctor? He sounded like he didn't know what he was doing.

Actually, the suffix "-itis" means "inflammation of." For example; tonsilitis means inflammation of the tonsils.

I'm pretty sure the writers went on google to search that and asked their 3 year old kid what the sound is when something hits something. There you go. A 100% stupid name.

And animal abuse in Pet Sitter Pat/A Pal For Gary (They're the same bloody episode), and hiking SpongeBob obsession with Squidward up to Eleven in Squid Wood and Boating Buddies..........If they think they're being funny, they're sadly mistaken.

Pet Sitter Pat is basically Yours, Mine, and Mine and A Pal for Gary thrown into a blender with a double layer of filth.

        Loading editor
    • I can't imagine why they thought that was funny. SpongeBob tends to behave idiotically, but this was really pushing it. If the writers were more faithful to the series as it used to be, SpongeBob would never let Gary come to harm like that. And show almost no remorse in letting it happen. And Patrick's idiocy is now something far worse. He was funny, now he's insufferable in a way that's not funny. And that sucks because he often made me laugh harder than even SpongeBob did. To turn Patrick into a massive jerkweed almost makes even less sense.

        Loading editor
    • I always thought Patrick's humor was humorous in pre-movie SpongeBob (with the exception of I'm With Stupid, but every good season has to have a few duds), but that has morphed him into one of the most hated characters of SpongeBob.

    • Pretty much man, pretty much. And yeah, he should've answered for being a smart aleck in I'm With Stupid. But that doesn't begin to measure up to what we see now from him. Constant ***holery from the cast isn't funny. Especially in a show like this. The writers don't even seem to try to keep in character or to make legit jokes anymore, they just seem to fling anything at the wall hoping it will stick. That's the only way I can explain the lack of effort invested, anyway.

    • You know, I'm not even sure if they're trying anymore. With shows like Sanjay and Craig, Breadwinners, and their terrible, terrible sitcoms, it's safe to say that Nickelodeon has reached an all-time low.

EDIT: Still, it could be because of the SpongeBob movie taking away from all the time from making quality content.

        Loading editor
    • Nickelodeon is practically asking for an early death at this rate. If they don't get SpongeBob and FOP back in form, their over-reliance on both will finally kill them off. The Legend of Korra is not even airing now, it now "airs online". SpongeBob isn't what it used to be, they only have TMNT now. They have nothing else to maintain their appeal. They're falling down the same route Cartoon Network did.

        Loading editor
      1. 1: I'm not sure if Cartoon Network is dead yet. They have Steven Universe, Gumball, Clarence, and Adventure Time. Still, they have Uncle Grandpa and Teen Titans Go, but 4 beats 2, and they already have a great idea coming on with Over the Garden Wall. Still, nothing beats classic Cartoon Network. :)
      1. 2: If Nickelodeon kills off TMNT, the only thing clinging on to their lives, all the shows and Nickelodeon itself will go kaput. They need to come up with a solid good idea to bring them back from the rough again, because as of now, Nickelodeon is a punch line.
        Loading editor
    • Cartoon Network is already dead to me. I gave up years ago personally. And I am not a fan of the surreal brand of humor most of those shows carry. And I'd best not get into either Teen Titans GO or Total Drama, both are shows that CN tampered too much with. We need the classic CN back. Sure, they brought Toonami back, but that's not enough. I want to see better shows with likable characters and actual effort. The shows you mentioned, I personally can't work up enough interest to see those. But that's just me, I won't go so far as to declare Adventure Time or those other ones bad, I just don't care for that surreal stuff personally.

Exactly. Nickelodeon is blindly racing towards its own grave. They don't realize that if they don't get their acts together, see a return of the originality and craft that the old Nicktoons had, the classic Nicktoons, the ones all the way from Ren and Stimpy up to Avatar, then they're doomed to come crashing down as they drive away more of their fanbase. The shows they have now just will not retain their audience for long. SpongeBob and FOP won't keep them alive forever. I think it's possible that Nick is simply unwilling to face the reality that sooner or later, both shows will have to end. That's going to hurt them badly if they don't start preparing for that reality.

        Loading editor
    • I respect your opinion. Not all people like some types of humor. If you want the classic Cartoon Network, Boomerang is as close as you can get.

Agreed. There was a time when Nickelodeon actually meant something. With shows like Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life, The Wild Thornberrys, Ren and Stimpy (not counting the Adult Party Cartoon), Rugrats, CatDog, and many many others, it's pretty clear that Nickelodeon used to be a favorite. But as time passed, they became more greedy and starting doing anything for money. This is how iCarly, Victorious, Sam & Cat, The Haunted Hathaways, and The Thundermans were formed, and they've been crap since they've premiered.

        Loading editor
    • I'll wait it out. Pray for a miracle. Pray that the studio's new management eventually paves the way for fresh blood and genuine talent as opposed to insincerity and out-of-touch approach that caused it to go off a cliff in the first place. I respect the opinions of those who like their newer shows that are still popular right now on the channel. But those are simply not for me. I can be rather fickle in my tastes at times, admittedly, but that's just a brand of comedy I'm not big on. They just seem to be weird for the sake of being weird, and for me that doesn't always work. But again, I respect those who do enjoy those current shows. I'm just not particularly enthusiastic about their new lineup.

Exactly, where did all of that old magic go? Nickelodeon has no standards now, they are dangerously close to seeing their entire base fall apart. They'll implode in the next two or five years if they don't work quickly to restore the appeal it had when those Nicktoons were dominant. Shows like Breadwinners and Sanjay and Craig will not save Nickelodeon. And in a few short weeks, they won't have Avatar or Korra to fall back on, the day will come when they wish they had treated those shows with more respect. Nickelodeon needs to wake up and face reality before they inadvertently commit suicide. They're on a dangerous path that could ruin them in the near future.

        Loading editor
    • The only good qualities I can find in Nickelodeon anymore is The 90's are All That programming block on TeenNick. But still, they are reruns, but good reruns. I have nothing against episodes of classic Nickelodeon, I really like them, to be honest. But if they want to continue on as a cartoon channel, they have to do major reconstruction on their shows and come up with more creative ideas, or pick up new indie shows that are good, not stuff like Breadwinners, TheFineBros, and Fred. Fred was really nothing special, but many people liked it. Nickelodeon giving Fred Figglehorn his own show and starring in other shows such as Marvin Marvin is what broke the camel's back.

I'll be online for at least another hour and a half, but if you feel like leaving, don't hesitate to ask. It's pretty dang late.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, and I don't even get the channel at home anymore. Yeah, I like the old Nick and I want them back, I am still nostalgia for the old days of the Nicktoons, I still remember them being highly enjoyable in the early 2000s. And the mid-2000s. But now? Nothing worth getting excited for. They have to rethink their ideas and their way of doing business, or viewers are going to very soon give up on them.

Yeah, Nick is investing its money into the wrong places. Fred? Breadwinners? You don't make entire shows out of YouTube videos. Just like you don't take Justin Bieber and turn him into a professional singer. ( Sorry, had to make the joke ^^; )

        Loading editor
    • Believe me, I don't like Justin Bieber either. He's too overrated to be enjoyable, and his singing is nothing special.

On the Nickelodeon side, Nickelodeon really needs a good cartoon to make better money. The more better the cartoon is, the profits will increase, tenfold. They just can't take some dead YouTube show, shove it in our faces, and expect us to watch it.

They could have taken Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. They could've taken Eddsworld. They could've taken The Modifyers. Heck, they could've taken an old show and made it into a new (and good) one. But no, they're going for the ladder option. They want to have all the latest trends to make money, but originality is the best medicine, and it's something Nickelodeon has had for a couple of decades before they officially jumped the shark.

EDIT: 3 Dog Band also comes to mind.

        Loading editor
    • Fortunately his troublemaking is costing him admirers lately, it looks like. In ten years people will barely remember him.

Exactly, operating like that is going to destroy them. Breadwinners didn't get the warmest reception and Fred is a laughingstock. IF we don't see some actual efforts at real new and legitimate ideas soon, Nick's not gonna be around in ten years. And I don't want Nick to crash and burn because we know from dozens of infinitely better shows from their history that they can do so much better.

        Loading editor
    • Pop artists come and go. I don't like most of them though.

I agree, Nickelodeon has the power to do so much better, but they're wasting their time picking these shows that were meant for the internet, not television viewing.

    • Nick should thank SpongeBob.

        Loading editor
    • Except the show is not what it once was, so I think the show may actually be holding them back. It seems to have a death grip on their willingness and ability to modernize and get fresh content back on Nick. I mean the writing for SpongeBob nosedived under the regime of Casey Alexander, Zeus Cervas, among others.

        Loading editor
    • But if you step back, and view Nick's entire schedule, there are very few shows that still are original.

      Besides, it's improved.

        Loading editor
    • Agreed. I personally think Season 9 is Season 5 in quality. It has had the majority of very good episodes, but then it has this and Little Yellow Book.

        Loading editor
    • Almost none. I don't know, SpongeBob's taking what was an excellent idea and abusing it now. The Splinter, Little Yellow Book, One Coarse Meal, Boating Buddies, and others like those are evidence of it. Too mean-spirited to be funny.

That's what I've heard. I haven't seen much of the new episodes lately, but I do hope that that is true.

    • Another terrible episode it has is Pet Sitter Pat. Just read the transcript:

      _____________________________________________________________________

Patrick: [angry] Okay, I get it, SpongeBob! I get it, I get it! [He tries to throw the phone out of the window, but it comes back in, and hits Patrick in the head.] NOOO!! [He slides on Gary's slime trail up the stairs and flying straight into the bathtub/shower in SpongeBob's bathroom. Patrick's head is covering the drain. He tries to get out by pulling the shower sprinkler, which breaks and water comes out. One of Patrick's eyes is closed from the water.] I don't get these new beguiled shower heads. [He opens the door to call for Gary.] [high-pitched] Gary! Time for your- [normal voice] [to himself] Wait a minute, Patrick! You gotta trick the snail! [He points to himself using both hands.] You gotta be smarterer than him! [walks up to Gary] Hey, buddy! I got something cool to show you. And it's the opposite of a wet watery bath. [He puts on a mask.] Take it down! [He uses his fire blaster to burn down SpongeBob's bed.]

      Gary: [worried] Meow!

      Patrick: Doesn't that look fun?

Gary: [still worried] [high-pitched] Meow! [He runs out of SpongeBob's bedroom.]

Patrick: Well, make up your mind! Is it water or fire? [He turns on the fire blaster for a couple seconds. Gary runs into SpongeBob's kitchen storage. He jumps on one of the shelves. Patrick walks in, too, with a hose.] Okay, Gary. If you don't come to the bath, then the bath's gonna come to you. [He turns on the hose. He sprays on Gary.] That's a good boy! Now, suds up! [We see a closeup of a box of soap flakes that Patrick's holding. He pours it on the water. The soap flakes and water both aim at Gary, that fills up the entire storage.]

      Gary: [bubbly voice] Meeeooowwwww!!!!

Patrick: That wasn't so bad, now was it?

You've got Gullible Pants, Not Normal, Overbooked, Patty Caper, Krabby Kronicle, Big One, Choir Boys, Porous Pockets, Sand Castles, Chum Bucket Supreme, Pineapple Fever, Chum Caverns, and The Clash of Triton. All very good.

Then you have season 7. Bad ones: One Coarse Meal, A Pal for Gary, The Cent of Money, Big Sister Sam, Rodeo Daze, I HEART Dancing, Stuck in the Wringer (the list continues).

Sounds like Season 7 was very much garbage.

    • Season 8 was kind of an improvement, but it still had some bad episodes. As I said before, it was beginning to go to Season 5 in quality.

    • People often criticize Season 4 as bad, but Season 4 didn't get all that bad until it was near the ending of itself. Season 4 still had plenty of episodes still true to the old seasons' style and tone. I lost track of the series beyond that point, but it definitely seems that ever since season five it's steadily just lost sight of what it was and resorted to too many lows to test the limits of what they can get away with. Some of these guys have set the wrong tone for the show. Hell, I have to look for the jokes now, what happened to the focus on humor? If these episodes aren't offensive, they're just boring. You're not supposed to be telling a straight story, you're supposed to be telling a funny story, or a straight story that still manages to be funny. I don't know how to describe it.

I'll have to look at 8 and 9 again soon to see what gems they did have.

    • The first season you should look at is Season 9. It has quality similar to Season 3 and 4.

    • I hope so, because the string of bad episodes needs to stop. And we need more jokes in these episodes.

for some reason, it feels like a werid version of season 1 to me.

    • I'll give it a try. But I definitely am avoiding Squid Baby. What are some other ones to miss in that season?

Squid Defense, another episode that flanderizes Squidward.

    • Season 4 was fine. Only a few poor episodes.

I think Season 9 has some quality of seasons 1 and 2.

    • I hate Flanderization immensely. That will always kill your show, why are writers so careless in trying to avoid it?

Hope so. I want what I've heard about Season 9 to be true. I want to believe SpongeBob can still work in its old charm. Which hopefully will come back stronger with Hillenburg back in the running. I mean the movie looks like it will be good, but I won't judge too quickly. But the trailer felt much more like Old SpongeBob than New SpongeBob.

Looks like there's some CGI in the movie, not sure how well that will go. But at least it's good CGI.
