SpongeBob SquarePants is such a popular cartoon, that it had many appearances outside the show. Here is a full list of them all. Several of them are from other Nickelodeon shows.

TV series

  • In a Regular Show episode," Really Real Wrestling",Mordecai and Rigby firstly thinks the championship match is fake, but then they realizes match is real.In Krusty Crushers, Spongebob and Patrick thinks match is a "play" (and they never realizes it's real).
  • Another Regular Show episode,"The Night Owl" Mordecai,Rigby,Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost freezes in a tent to 4224,this is some similar to Squidward's freeze in the freezer for 2000 years.
  • In a Doctor Who episode, The Vampires of Venice, Rory mentions SpongeBob.
  • In Angelo Rules, Peter has a yellow square toy. It is very similar to when Spongebob screams in Spongeguard on Duty. Angelo has same toy, but it's orange.
  • In the Glee episode Asian F, when Kurt and Rachel are flipping through TV channels, Spongebob appears briefly.
  • In Part One of the first season finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the character Master Pakku coyly stated to one of his students, "Nice work... a couple more years and you might be ready to fight a sea sponge." The show's creators later said in the audio commentary of Siege of the North Part I that his statement was a friendly poke at SpongeBob SquarePants.
  • In a Code Lyoko episode "Crash Course" mentioned a name 'Big Fat Cheese Head". This is some similar to "Cheese Head Brown Pants".
  • In the ABC cartoon The Weekenders, there was a rock band called the "Chum Bukkit", a reference to the Chum Bucket.

    • Opening: A clay-animated SpongeBob is shown.
    • "Celebrity Birthdays"- A jellyfish named Mort Jenkins is one of the birthdays.
    • "WALL·E·NATOR"- WALL·E·NATOR cubes SpongeBob after eating too many "Crabby" Patties.
    • "Cliffordfield"- When Sesame Street's Big Bird gets squashed by Clifford the Big Red Dog, he turns into SpongeBob.
    • "Who Wore it Better?"- SpongeBob is one of the choices.
    • "MAD vs. Wild"- Bear Grylls eats Gary.
    • "Celebrities Without Their Makeup"- SpongeBob, dressed like an elf, is a fruitcake without his makeup.
    • "iAYCarly!"- At the end, a Mexican SpongeBob is shown. (For 2007 TV Series, iCarly)
    • "Law & Ogre"- When Shrek and Donkey are talking to the Wolf, you can see a photograph of SpongeBob. (For 1990-2011 TV Series, Law & Order)
    • "Pirates of the Pair of Tweens"- Captain Jack Sparrow goes "planking" at the "Crabby Crust" with Plankton.
    • "SpongeWOW!"- SpongeBob is used as a ShamWOW! towel.
    • "Abs-Duction"- Actor Taylor Lautner goes to Mr. Krab's house, thinking he is his real father. Mr. Krabs responds by slamming the door at him, angrily.
    • "New Gill"- SpongeBob appeared in this parody. He also laughs at Ariel (the character from Disney's The Little Mermaid).
    • "IChronicle"- SpongeBob and Patrick can be seen on a Nickelodeon blimp.
  • An episode of The X Presidents (from TV Funhouse on Saturday Night Live) depicts SpongeBob refusing to star in a pro-Gulf War II propaganda commercial, and getting held prisoner for it. Tom Kenny provides SpongeBob's voice, which is surprising as this clip has relatively adult content.

SpongeBob's first appearance on The Simpsons

  • SpongeBob has been referred to several times on The Simpsons:
    • In the "She Used to Be My Girl" episode of The Simpsons, Lisa, needing a god to pray to, tells a newscaster she is praying to Jesus, Buddha, and SpongeBob. Then the camera shows heaven, where Jesus, Buddha, and crudely drawn SpongeBob are. Buddha asks Jesus, "Perhaps we should help?" and SpongeBob interrupts, saying "Screw her!", then laughs insanely, while Jesus shakes his head.
    • In the "Fat Man and Little Boy" episode of The Simpsons, Krusty the Clown mentions a character called ScratchBob ItchPants while announcing character shirts.
    • In the opening credits of the episode "Pray Anything" of The Simpsons, SpongeBob is mentioned in Bart's blackboard gag, which says "SpongeBob is not a contraceptive."
    • In the The Simpsons episode "A Star Is Born-Again", Ned Flanders says, "This movie is turning into SpongeBob NoPants."
    • In the episode of The Simpsons, The Wife Aquatic, Marge and Lisa go to an Aqautic Museum where there is an exibit that reads "The Science of SpongeBob" and it shows a SpongeBob statue next to it.
    • In The Simpsons episode Treehouse of Horror XX, A Frankenstein's monster was dressed in a SpongeBob costume. Later, SpongeBob told The Simpsons he was secretly very evil.
  • In the The Fairly OddParents episode "Wish Fixers", Timmy wishes to have running pants made of cheese, and then Cosmo calls Timmy "CheeseBoy SquarePants".
  • Another reference can be found in The Fairly OddParents episode, "Something's Fishy", where the king of Atlantis, Greg, states that their diets consist of "crabs, starfish, and the occasional undersea squirrel", as a joke to their fellow Nick animators.
  • In a The Fairly OddParents episode "Wishology:The Exciting Middle Part" Destroyers rebuilds them (their hands walks) like DoodleBob.
  • In the Six Feet Under episode "You Never Know", Federico's son, Julio, was watching the SpongeBob SquarePants episode, "No Weenies Allowed".
  • In 2004, Sesame Street ran a spoof show called TriangleBob TrianglePants, on the Triangle-odeon network, starring the show's own Bob McGrath with his face stuck in a triangle-shaped cutout body vaguely reminiscent of SpongeBob's.
  • In the Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide episode Guide to: School Photos, Ned said "Look like yourself, not someone you saw on TV". Then a kid in a SpongeBob suit (similar to the one shown in "SpongeGuard on Duty") was shown.
  • In the episode "Be A-Fred, Be Very A-Fred" of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, there was a light-blue monster that looked like SpongeBob. In the same episode, an employee at the ice cream parlour resembled Squidward (being boorish and having a big nose).
  • On the X Factor site, the contestant Ashley MacKenzie is wearing a SpongeBob t-shirt.
  • A SpongeBob SquarePants stuffed toy can be seen in the background in some episodes of The Andy Milonakis Show.
  • In the Unfabulous episode "The Little Sister", SpongeBob was one of the nominees for class president.
  • In the TV series Scrubs JD has a SpongeBob SquarePants outfit which he gave as a present from himself to himself.
  • In the TV series Hey Joel, Joel is seen talking to Alicia Keys and in the background is a SpongeBob SquarePants
  • In the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "Life Serial," Tara tells Buffy that she had once "spaced out" while watching SpongeBob SquarePants with Willow.
  • In the popular MTV show, Yo Momma, in the best of LA Chuck from the Valley jokes about Jordan's tight pants by stating: "Lets all have a round of applause for SpongeBob Tightpants". Also, SpongeBob SquarePants is frequently referenced in the show.
  • SpongeBob's pineapple house is visible in The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron:Boy Genius episode "Operation: Jet Fusion" When Jimmy, Carl and Sheen go to the Pacific Ocean.
  • In the "Prick Up Your Ears" episode of Family Guy, Stewie is seen playing with a SpongeBob doll, gearing up to fight the Tooth Fairy.
  • In the Family Guy episode, Road to Rupert, as Meg drives the car, Peter watches the scene from The Camping Episode when SpongeBob and Patrick are singing the "Campfire Song Song."
  • In the Family Guy episode "Road to the North Pole", Stewie Griffin asks Brian whether SpongeBob and his friend Squidward are like Santa Claus in terms of existence.

  • In an episode of The Cleveland Show, "Gone With the Wind", when Cleveland is on a ferris wheel, a SpongeBob-like doll is next to him. However, the only physical appearance between it and SpongeBob is they have the same face. The SpongeBob doll has a banana shape.
  • In another episode of The Cleveland Show, "Beer Walk!", Holt mentions sleeping with a woman who turned out to be a pinata shaped like SpongeBob.
  • In an episode of Two and a Half Men, Charlie Harper refers to his nephew, Jake, as SpongeBob Gaypants when he begins imitating stereotypical homosexual phrases and hand gestures.
  • In the South Park episode, "Hell on Earth 2006", SpongeBob can be seen in the background of Satan's party.

  • In the television show House, Dr House shows an interest in the SpongeBob TV show.
  • On an episode of Country Fried Home Videos, a video shows a man throwing a plunger into the air many times, and it lands on his head almost every time. When the man that did this speaks to the viewers, "PlungeBob WearsPants" is wrote under his name as a joke.
  • On an episode of The Singing Bee, there was a special in which contestants try to sing in the correct lyrics in a theme song. One theme was the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song.
  • On an episode of "Duck Dodgers," after someone makes a remark of a sea sponge, a parody of SpongeBob is shown as a busboy.
  • On The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, SpongeBob calls his phone on voice mail; this is mentioned in one of his monologues and is used in one of his skits where they change his voice to say what they wrote.
  • The show Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! has similar characters off of SpongeBob: Wubbzy and SpongeBob are alike because they are both yellow and square. Widget and Sandy are alike because they both have a southern/Texan accent and are inventors.
  • Phineas and Ferb has refined SpongeBob:

    • In Phineas and Ferb-Busters Doofenshmirtz running from the robot is similar to the movie SpongeBob was watching earlier in the episode Krab Borg. Coincidentally, Dan Povenmire plays both Doofenshmirtz and the guy running away from the robot in the movie.
    • In Oh, There you are Perry The theme of the episode and the name of the song bear a very slight resemblance to the episode "Have You Seen This Snail?
    • In No More Bunny Business At the beginning of the episode, Phineas pops out of the mailbox and scares the mailwoman. This could be a possible reference to SpongeBob popping out of the mailbox and
    • scaring the mailman in Chocolate with Nuts.
    • In Phineas and Ferb: Summer Belongs to You While Phineas is digging for useful stuff, he finds a sponge and a starfish, probably referring to SpongeBob and Patrick.

  • In a episode of America's Funniest Home Videos a guy in a SpongeBob suit is seen running in circles then he trips and falls. Tom Burgeron calls him "SpongeBob ClumsyPants."
  • A SpongeBob balloon was seen in the 2010 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade with the F.U.N. song playing.

  • In the 4th DVD of "What's In the Bible?" Michael accidentally mentions that his brother Peare was wearing some SpongeBob underpants then later he calls him "SpongeBob UnderPants."
  • In a Robot Chicken episode Sandy gets pregnant and SpongeBob realized she used him to protect her.
  • In another Robot Chicken episode a sponge and a starfish dance together. Even though they were resembling SpongeBob and Patrick they weren't the same characters.
  • In another episode of Robot Chicken SpongeBob discovers Mr. Krab's secret ingredient. Krabby Patties were made out of crabs (reference to Solyent Green).

  • Stephen Colbert metioned SpongeBob in a skit saying that Osama Bin Laden now lives in a pineapple under the sea after being buried underwater.
  • Ed, Edd, n Eddy have parodied the Best Day Ever Marathon with the Best Day Edder Marathon.
  • In Nickelodeon's game show, BrainSurge features Tom Kenny who is the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants. (April 27, 2011)
  • In the Good Luck Charlie episode "Let's Potty", when the Duncan's TV break down, and with the fake TV with a yellow star and a pink square (who resembles SpongeBob and Patrick).
  • Fanboy and Chum Chum has refined Spongebob:
    • In Brain Drain, Chum Chum uses a "Sponge of Spongyness" to replace Fanboy's brain. The sponge looks very similar to Spongebob.
    • In Cold War, The plot is a parody of "Naughty Nautical Neighbors", in which Fanboy and Chum Chum turn against each other after getting sick and compete over Kyle's attention. Also, Kyle running from the clones is similer the movie Spongebob watched at the beginning of "Krab Borg".
    • In Fanboy A'hoy!, Fanboy finds moss on the back of his head that points north. This is a reference to the fact that moss points to civilization in "Pizza Delivery".
    • In Kids in the Hall, Kyle has to write a 3,000 word essay to go back to his old school. This could be a reference to SpongeBob's 800 word essay from "Procrastination".
    • In Excuse Me, The story and plot is slightly similar to "Ditchin'".
    • At end of Night Morning, Chum Chum and Fanboy calls Man-Artica with cookie and milk. Near the end of Night Light, Spongebob and Patrick accidently calls Mermaidman and Barnacleboy.
  • In an episode of Comedy Central's Drawn Together, SpongeBob appears in a fair fight with Wooldoor Sockbat in which he wins. Also Patrick and Mr. Krabs can be seen in the audience.
  • In another Drawn Together episode, Wooldoor was singing the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song wile playing his gutar.
  • In another Drawn Together episode, Gary is seen standing on Wooldoor's shoulder. Mainly Wooldoor gets spoofed with SpongeBob because they look a lot alike
  • In the Victorious episode "Tori Gets Stuck", Tori mentions that Robbie is wearing SpongeBob underwear.
  • In an episode of George Lopez, Benita makes a reference to Max going a month without the "stupid, talking sponge".
  • In the Johnny Bravo episode, "Cartoon Makeover", Don Knotts attempts Johnny to wear "square pants".
  • SpongeBot SquareBolts
    The Futurama episode "Yo Leela Leela" features Leela working for the company "Ticklelodeon", a parody of Nickelodeon. One of the mascots is SpongeBot SquareBolts.
  • In the Glee episode Comeback, Sue calls Will "SpongeHair SquareChin".
  • On the Cartoon Network show, "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends", two friends have some smilarites to Plankton. One, a green stick named Jackie Khones. The other, Pigsetti, a fat, teal friend. Also, in the episode Busted, there are two sponge-like imaginary friends (one squared and one a fat triangle) who resemble SpongeBob and Patrick, respectively.
  • On "Jeopardy!" it featured "SpongeBob SqaurePants" as an answer. For the question: Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are the favorite superheroes of this title Nickelodeon guy (July 7, 2011).
  • In an episode of The Troop, Mr. Stockley was seen at the dentist watching SpongeBob on TV.
  • In an episode of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", one of the questions was, "On the Nickelodeon TV show SpongeBob SquarePants, what color is SpongeBob?" The contestant did not know, so he decided to ask the audience. 90% of the audience said he is yellow. The contestant decided to go with the audience and said yellow. He got the answer correct.
  • In an episode of the Weakest Link, which featured rappers as contestants, one of the questions was, "What is the last name of the Nickelodeon cartoon character SpongeBob?" Rapper Nate Dogg guesssed "dog", when it was really SquarePants.
  • In the American Dad episode Tearjerker, Stan asks Johnny Depp that if he was a robot, he'd tell him. This is similar to what SpongeBob said to Gary in Krab Borg.
  • In the TV show Hawaii Five-0 (2010) when Dano is recovering from exposhure to radioactivity, his duaghter Grace is seen watching the theme song
  • In Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, one kid dresses up as Spongebob for school picture day.
  • On The Big Bang Theory, Zack discoverd that starfish can't died, not knowing they, can on the discovery channel. Sheldon said " Are you sure that it wasn't wearing green trunks because if so you might be watching Nickelodeon."
  • In My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, the episode "Baby Cakes", Pinkie Pie puts toys in a bathtub to make Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake(the babies)stop crying and one of the toys were a sponge with eyes,and a bucked toothed mouth which resembled SpongeBob's head.

  • In the film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, there is a short scene in China where a family is watching the "Jellyfishing" episode of SpongeBob SquarePants in Mandarin.
  • The SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Help Wanted" is watched by Lance in Orange County.
  • In the film War of the Worlds, Dakota Fanning's character can be seen watching "The Secret Box" episode of SpongeBob SquarePants just before the lightning starts. The clips were mixed up.
  • In Sleepover, Julie calls Russell "SpongeBob" three times.
  • In Just Like Heaven, the main character's sister is cooking dinner when she yells "Who put SpongeBob in the pasta!?"
  • In Final Destination 3, the character Kevin Fischer and Wendy Christensen are trying to piece together the clues to another person's death when Kevin says "So he'll be crushed by a giant SpongeBob?"
  • In The Weather Man, a SpongeBob balloon can be seen in the parade.
  • In the movie Firewall, the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Squirrel Jokes" is on the TV that the daughter is watching.
  • In the movie, Daddy Day Care, a kid wears SpongeBob slippers.
  • In the 2008 monster movie Cloverfield, an electronic store has the clips of the Season 1 episode pair MuscleBob BuffPants and Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost.
  • In the movie, Seeing Double from S Club, Hannah Spearritt was wearing SpongeBob slippers on her hands in a scene.
  • In the film Are We There Yet?, when Nick names off the things he does not have, one of them was SpongeBob.
  • In Deck The Halls, a child says his codename is SpongeBob SquarePants while he is planning to have his dad destroy the electricity box of Buddy Hall.
  • In It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, Whoopi Goldberg mentions SpongeBob when one of the scientists is at a giant garden and they watch a flying TV screen.
  • In the film Zathura, Walter changes the channel to the SpongeBob episode, "Bubblestand", Danny is amused by it until Walter changes the channel again.
  • At the 2005 Academy Awards, Robin Williams made a few jokes regarding SpongeBob, including the supposed rumor that SpongeBob is gay.[citation needed]
  • In Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, there is a small part is where Jessie says that Phantom is a Krusty Krab. A reference to The Krusty Krab where SpongeBob works.
  • In Alvin and the Chipmunks, the chipmunks are watching SpongeBob SquarePants and the theme song can be heard before they are seen watching the show. A clip of Have You Seen This Snail? is also seen in this film.
  • The very short-lived Japanese anime series Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann had Squidward in a cameo

  • In the 2010 film Date Night, a SpongeBob doll can be seen, and later in the movie they are seen watching Karate Choppers.
  • In the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid, Dre Parker is watching the clip of "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III" in Chinese.
  • In the 2011 film Best Player Chris tells Quincy about a SpongeBob watch.
  • In the 2011 film Brain And Scamper Show 5 Movie Film for Theaters, SpongeBob is a disguise that was used by Oogie Boogie. He used the disguise so he could trick Igor, and steal his super muscles.
  • In the TV Movie "Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred", Fred is dressed up like SpongeBob for Halloween in a flashback.

  • In the book 11 Birthdays Amanda's parents buy her a SpongeBob balloon.
  • A German MAD magazine features SpongeBob and Patrick with various characters from the popular web series Happy Tree Friends (right).
  • In the book Company Man by Joseph Finder, the main character's daughter, Julia, watches SpongeBob on TV several times. Similarly, in the book Homemade Haunting by Rob Stennett, the main character's children watch SpongeBob several times.
  • SpongeBob is a topic usually mentioned in the comic strip, Off the Mark.
  • In the comic strip Mother Goose and Grimm, Ralph is visiting Grimm in cartoon rehab and asks if its helping anyone. Grimm replies with "It sure ain't helpin' this guy." and you see a very tense SpongeBob chanting "Need a Krabby Patty. Need a Krabby Patty."
  • Also in Mother Goose and Grimm, Grimm is seen eating Corn Chips and watching SpongeBob.
  • In the comic strip Pearls Before Swine, on the May 18, 2003 strip, Rat and Pig wear SpongeBob and Patrick costumes singing the theme song.
  • One of the most infamous popular culture depictions of SpongeBob: In a May 2003 Comic Strip of Garfield, the Sunday.
  • In book #35 of Animorphs, Marco flips through the TV channels. One of the shows mentioned is Spongebob. This may be one of the first mentions of the show in pop culture, because the book was published in 1999.
  • Post had a feature of Garfield looking like SpongeBob with bubbles over him and the Garfield logo is written in the parody of the SpongeBob SquarePants logo. The comic was about Jon serving Garfield his dinner water because he forgot to go grocery shopping.
  • On September 2008 in Legoland California, a employee at an attraction had sang the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song but he had sang it wrong in style, and the audience joined to sing.
  • At Legoland California, the SpongeBob SquarePants figure made out of Legos is visible at the Lego Store.
  • Newgrounds includes some flash projects of SpongeBob.
  • In the "Dork Diaries" second book, Nikki states that her sister's fake spider does not look at all realistic and should be seen with SpongeBob.
  • In Rebecca Black's music video for "Person of Interest", during a scene at the arcade, a sign for a SpongeBob SquarePants game was partially visible.
  • In the game "Minecraft" 1.9 Pre-Release #1 in the NPC Villages there are the people called Villagers (also known as "TESTIFICATE") they sort of look like Squidward and Squilliam Fancyson they have a long nose and a unibrow.
  • In the "YO MAMA!" series on YouTube, one of the jokes was "YO MAMA IS SO STUPID, she 'seaweed' was something that FISH SMOKE!" Then it shows Spongebob and Patrick smoking weed with Patrick saying, "I'm freaking out!"

  • In 2010 Play-Skool releced a Mr. Potato Head called SpudBob SquarePants were Mr. Potato Heads parts are parts from SpongeBob's body exept for the potato body.
  • A clip from the episode "20, 000 Patties Under the Sea" is seen in Episode #53 of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series.
  • The show is mentioned in the Gone series book Fear when some kids are acting out the episode Texas.
  • On Nintendo DSi their is an app called Flipnote Studio, and if you go on Flipnote Hatena, there is tons of Spongebob fan made animations
