Hints and tips[]

Reception[]

  • Jason Bovberg of DVD Talk was favorable on the episodes featured, and also praised the extras, while not "nearly as cool as those of the first SpongeBob collection, Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies." "This disc is definitely worth your time and money. There were moments when I was gasping for breath, I was laughing so hard."[1]
  • Rich Rosell of Digitally Obsessed praised the episodes featured, and the "quite funny" extras. "SpongeBob SquarePants is a solidly written cartoon, designed to appeal [to] kids and adults without pandering too much to either group. Even at its worst, the show is still far funnier than any of its contemporaries, and rarely fails to elicit at least a couple of laugh-out-loud moments."[2]

Trivia[]

General[]

  • On the bottom of the front cover it says, "10 Water-Logged Tales." On the back, and on the episode selection it has nine episodes with one episode being considered a special feature.
  • On the spine, it does not show the SpongeBob SquarePants series logo, unlike other SpongeBob DVDs at the time.
  • The back cover of this DVD contains pictures from these episodes:
  • "Shanghaied" comes with all three endings and is listed in the special features section of the DVD.
  • This DVD is rated PG in Canada.
  • This DVD has no previews, but the VHS version does have previews.
  • Both the DVD and VHS versions were released in Paramount's 90th anniversary year in 2002. As such, the DVD version features the Paramount 90th anniversary logo in the opening.
  • "Shanghaied" is the first episode on the VHS tape version. On the DVD version, the first episode is "Gary Takes a Bath."
  • The Patchy segments in "Shanghaied" are not on this DVD.
  • The episode "Gary Takes a Bath" was released on this DVD eight months before premiering on Nickelodeon in the United States, making this DVD the second DVD to premiere an episode, with the first being Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies. However, the episode premiered on Nicktoons in the United States on June 17, 2002, almost 5 months prior to this DVD's release.
  • "No Free Rides," "Sailor Mouth," "No Weenies Allowed," "Jellyfish Jam," and "The Algae's Always Greener" are not on the VHS version, making this the second DVD to have episodes not released on VHS. The first was with the Halloween DVD.
  • All of the episodes on this DVD had clips during the "SpongeBob Dancin' Pants" music video on the special features.
  • The "SpongeBob Dancin' Pants" music video can also be found on disc 3 of The Complete 1st Season DVD as a special feature.
