To the Editor:

"I always knew my 8-year-old son was ahead of his time. But what a stroke of genius it was on his part to choose to dress as SpongeBob SquarePants this past Halloween. Unfortunately, the Nickelodeon promo machine referred to by Joyce Millman [The Gentle World of a Joyful Sponge, July 8] had yet to create a SpongeBob SquarePants costume that I could purchase. The day before Halloween, I was painting a huge piece of foam (so huge my son couldn't fit in the car) yellow and hemming brown pants. But my hard work paid off when my son said that many a dad greeted him with SpongeBob, cool! I'm sure we'll see many SpongeBobs this Halloween, along with Patrick, Squidward and Sandy."
