— Nematodes, Home Sweet Pineapple
Character

Nematodes are worm-like species. They first appear in the episode "Home Sweet Pineapple" and are voiced by various actors in the SpongeBob SquarePants cast. They are the undersea equivalent of termites that infest and destroy homes.

Description[]

Home Sweet Pineapple 010

Nematodes are beige-green. They are not often seen but if they are, they will eat something. They seem to be lead by one leading nematode who calls out things like "walking," "hungry," "still hungry," or "thirsty" and leads its followers to foods and drinks. They eat just about anything and drink pineapple juice.

Role in series[]

SpongeBob SquarePants[]

"Home Sweet Pineapple"[]

They eat one coral and Fred's boatmobile. Their hunger is still not satisfied, so they consume SpongeBob's pineapple and then leave.

"Opposite Day"[]

When the realtor talks to Squidward about moving on the phone, she says in response that she will consider selling his house as long as it is not infested with nematodes, surrounded by troublesome neighbors, or anything else like that.

"Sailor Mouth"[]

Sailor Mouth 012

Nematodes is misspelled as "Nematoads."

SpongeBob reads out one of the dumpster writings outside of the Krusty Krab, "Nematodes are people too." Also, Nematodes is misspelled as "Nematoads."

"Best Day Ever"[]

The Krusty Krab came under an infestation of nematodes and thus they put Mr. Krabs' business into jeopardy, even leading the restaurant to being condemned. SpongeBob tells them to leave so he can get to work, but they ignore his command and eat his pants instead. However, they are then inadvertently lured out by SpongeBob once he starts playing the tune of "Best Day Ever" on his nose (he had tried singing the song himself when trying to tell them they were ruining his day, but found himself doing it off-key, leading him to tune it with his nose).

They fall asleep after SpongeBob takes them out of Bikini Bottom and becomes tired from playing the song.

"Gary's New Toy"[]

After Gary chose his ball over SpongeBob, the latter decides to move out and live under a bus bench on his own. He sees a nematode and befriends it, but it immediately steals his wallet and crawls off.

"Dopey Dick"[]

When Dopey Dick was captured by Capn' A. Krabs on his boat, Planky fires nematodes to destroy the Ye Olde Pineapple.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years[]

"Gimme a News Break"[]

When Mr. Krabs advertises yams, he says that every one "comes with a free nematode," and pulls one out. He then demonstrates that the nematode will eat the yams if the campers don't like it. However, the nematode also eats Krabs' hand, reducing it to a skeleton. It then burps the remains of the yam in his face, as he laughs nervously.

Things that they consumed[]

  • Giant coral with rocks
  • Fred's boat
  • SpongeBob's house
  • The Krusty Krab (they almost did it but they were quarantined)
  • SpongeBob's pants
  • Yams
  • Mr. Krabs' hand
  • The Ye Olde Pineapple

Trivia[]

  • Nematodes are actually roundworms, and are creatures that can live in any environment. The show depicts their behavior more close to the desert locusts in real life, as they come in swarms and consume any vegetation that comes in their path.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants is the second Nicktoon to mention nematodes; the first time was Doug in the episode "Doug Bags a Neematoad." During a camping trip, Roger Klotz tells Doug about the creature and encourages him to catch it in a manner similar to a snipe hunt.
