This is a list of all the running gags in the SpongeBob SquarePants episodes. A common gag in the series are things being spelled wrong or mistakenly added.

Season 1
- 1b Reef Blower - SpongeBob blowing something into Squidward's yard.
- 3a Jellyfishing - Someone gets stung in a different kind of way.
- 7a Hall Monitor - Patrick screaming at things.
- 8b Squeaky Boots - The boots going into the cash register.
- 11a MuscleBob BuffPants - SpongeBob's arm falls off after Sandy's exercises.
- 12b Employee of the Month - Squidward getting covered with Krabby Patty Meat before saying "Baloney." SpongeBob and Squidward compete to being Employee of the Month.
- 15a Sleepy Time - SpongeBob ruining a character's dream.
- 17a Arrgh! - SpongeBob and Patrick thinking Mr. Krabs is sweaty.
- 17b Rock Bottom - SpongeBob misses the bus several times. Each time he tries to get his candy, the bus leaves instantly. Later, someone stole his candy.
Season 2
- 21b Squid's Day Off- There were three running gags in this episode.
- SpongeBob says to Squidward "Have you finished those errands?" several times, then later Squidward gets a phenomena for going to his house and the Krusty Krab back and forth.
- Squidward running to the Krusty Krab and nothing being wrong.
- Squidward goes to the Krusty Krab again with a phenomena.
- 22a Something Smells - People run away when SpongeBob talks due to his horrible breath.
- 24a Dying for Pie - Kids throwing rocks at Squidward, SpongeBob laughing as he checks things off the list.
- 27a Prehibernation Week - A man in a ridiculous costume saying "Um... I can explain."
- 30a I'm Your Biggest Fanatic - Kevin getting stung by a Jellyfish and his club member saying "wa..wa..wa." Patrick touching something and being told to not touch anything.
- 33a Shanghaied- Flying Dutchman saying "Welcome back", SpongeBob and Patrick failing to scare people.
- 33b Gary Takes a Bath - SpongeBob tried to get Gary to take a bath.
- 35b Band Geeks - Patrick kicks Sandy and she beats him up with a trombone or trumpet.
Season 3
- 44a Nasty Patty - The Health Inspector gets constantly hit on the head.
- 46a Snowball Effect - A snowball puts out Squidward's fire. Squidward accidentally threw his snowball at his own fire. He repeatedly throws his snowballs after he thinks that SpongeBob and Patrick did something but it was a tree covered with snow that was definitely spilling him with snow. His clarinet was stuck to Patrick's head. Then, he swallowed a lot of snowballs.
- 52a Chocolate With Nuts - Tom chasing SpongeBob and Patrick, yelling "CHOCOLATE!!"
- 52b Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V - Barnacle Boy wanting to be called "Barnacle Man".
- 53a New Student Starfish - Patrick saying "Wow" after seeing Mrs. Puff's Boating School things.
- 55a The Great Snail Race - Squidward's last name constantly being spelled wrong by the word "Torterlini" on the trophy.
- 56b I Had an Accident - Old Man Jenkins wants to take a bath. Patrick and Sandy attempt to get SpongeBob to go outside but he constantly refuses.
Season 4
- 61a Fear of a Krabby Patty - Plankton constantly gets hit with a piano including the one which SpongeBob turned the cards into another piano.
- 62a The Lost Mattress - Mr. Krabs being pushed to different places by the nurse such as near the vending machines and outside. Squidward being attack by the guard worm.
- 63 Have You Seen This Snail? - When Patrick sees something that is really important, he gets worried by a useless reason.
- 67b Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy VI: The Motion Picture - Sandy exploding bombs on Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy and saying "Did somebody say 'boom'?"
- 71b Karate Island - Sandy goes up to the third floor but she slips and falls on her way because it is all covered in mud.
- 73b Once Bitten - Bikini Bottomites panicking by Gary's infectous bite.
Season 5
- 81 Friend or Foe - Mr. Krabs being called "Rag Boy" and being teased by Plankton.
- 88c Slimy Dancing - Squidward constantly walks and hits into the limbo stick twice.
- 89b Sing a Song of Patrick - Bikini Bottomites being annoyed by Patrick's song except for Old Man Jenkins.
- 93a Picture Day - A repeated montage of SpongeBob getting ready. SpongeBob keeps getting dirty.
Season 6
- 104b Gone - SpongeBob crashes through walls.
- 126 The Clash of Triton - Whenever Mr. Krabs disappoints Queen Amphitrite, she zaps him.
Season 7
- 131a Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful - The policeman giving penalties to Squidward for littering. Then later the cop gives penalties to Squilliam. At the end, he gave another to Squidward and another to SpongeBob.
- 131b A Pal for Gary - Puffy Fluffy attacking Gary when SpongeBob leaves a room.
- 134 SpongeBob's Last Stand - Patrick misunderstanding SpongeBob's questions and answering something that he already knows.
- 139b The Cent of Money - Mr. Krabs calls Gary a different name.
- 150a Krusty Dogs - Squidward wearing a Krusty Dog and a Krabby Patty mascot with two signs, "Try New Krusty Dogs" and "They're Back!" costumes and someone kicking him.
- 151b New Fish in Town - Characters' homes being pushed off a cliff and characters jumping off the cliff.
Season 8
- 155b Sentimental Sponge - Someone mentioning Squidward's nightshirt and referring to it as a dress.
- 165a House Sittin' for Sandy - Robots destroying Sandy's Treedome, Patrick saying "Wasn't me".
- 178 Hello Bikini Bottom - The Elderly Fish yelling out "Too loud!" and Squidward walking into cactus.
Season 9
- 181a Squid Baby - When the fish shouts "My face! My face! Also my leg. But mostly my face!"
- 181b License to Milkshake - SpongeBob making frozen milkshakes.
- 182b Bumper to Bumper - SpongeBob saying "Focus on the road. There is nothing but the road."
- 190b Tutor Sauce - SpongeBob causing damage to the Krusty Krab with his driving, Mr. Krabs saying "Put 'er in gear!" and Hot Steel and Slide Licks playing every time SpongeBob damages/destroys the Krusty Krab.
