Synopsis

This episode consists of the content shown on the Krusty Krab's training video for new employees. The tape talks about the history of the restaurant, from its founding to the present day. The tape also gives instructions on how to be a good employee, such as keeping the workplace clean, and how to have good hygiene. SpongeBob himself is the subject of the training, and throughout the episode is very eager to learn how to make a Krabby Patty, asking to several times throughout the course of the episode but being denied repeatedly. The episode ends with SpongeBob finally being told the formula. The narrator begins to say "The Secret Formula is-" before the episode ends abruptly. Template:Section-Expand

• When this episode aired, the 1998 Klasky-Csupo logo appears instead of United Plankton Pictures logo. The Nickelodeon Haystack logo remained. This was corrected in 2006. The reason the wrong logo were inserted is that the show's closing credits were electronically inserted alongside promos for other Nickelodeon programming, followed by the show's closing logos, which were also electronically inserted. When the data was entered for this episode, the wrong logo was programmed in.
• According to Season 3 special features, this is one of the most popular episodes in the series.
• According to the Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash, this is Keke Palmer's favorite episode.
• If you look closely at the "Training Manual" you can see the Hungarian flag. (red, white, green).
• The sign in the bathroom written in English ("Please, wash your fins") and Spanish ("Lave las aletas") is a parody of other similar signs found in public stores such as Walmart. The Spanish part of the sign is not a totally correct translation because it literally says "Wash the fins". A more correct translation of "Please, wash your fins" is actually "Por favor, lávese las aletas."
• Plankton's robotic Krabby Patty walker is seen in the Chum Bucket LEGO set.
• When the spatula, cash register, straw and ketchup packets begin to spin around, causing SpongeBob's eyes to follow them, his nose is much shorter during the close-up.
• When Mr. Krabs throws Plankton out of the Krusty Krab, Patrick and Squidward are gone from the cash register.
• Apparently, Mr. Krabs has a fleeting fear of robot overlords.
• This episode reveals that Mr. Krabs may have a problem with excessive sweating as he was shown having easily noticeable sweat marks without doing much.
• This is the first episode to reveal Mr. Krabs' naval past (other than his obvious mariner mannerisms).
• When Mr. Krabs picks up Plankton to flick him out of the restaurant, Plankton's sped up voice slowed down can be heard saying, "Felicitations, malefactors! I am endeavoring to find my minions. And I know just how to speak their language." This dialogue is heard in Plankton's Army, an episode that comes later in the season.
• Running Gags: SpongeBob saying "Can I make a Krabby Patty now?" and being swatted.
• The reason the tape ends abruptly is possibly as a preventing of Plankton getting his hands on the secret formula of the Krabby Patty. However, it is revealed in 2 episodes from season one, "Plankton!" and "Pickles". It is also revealed on the SpongeBob SquarePants Facebook page.
• This is the second time the opening credits were not in an underwater background. The first was SB-129. Ugh's opening credits are different, but still underwater.
• In the episode As Seen on TV, Mr. Krabs is extremely stingy about making an expensive commercial. However, this episode is a somewhat professionally-made production most likely paid for by "Krusty Krab Inc.," which is also mentioned.
• This episode may have no purpose as it is a training video for future employees, even though SpongeBob and Squidward will work at the Krusty Krab for the rest of their lives. (as seen in the episode Squid on Strike) Although this episode may take place before Squid on Strike.
• This is the second time a title card is on solid black. The first was F.U.N.
• Squidward and Patrick both noticed the narrator, thus breaking the fourth wall.

Cultural References

• The music playing during the still shots of The Krusty Krab being shown is "Quest for the Best", which is a parody of the band Survivor's Eye of the Tiger.
• When Mr. Krabs says "The money is always right," it is a parody of "The customer is always right."
• At one point, a young Mr. Krabs is humming the tune of "Blow the Man Down", the sea shanty the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song is based on.

Errors

• On the TV guide, the letter "K" in the word "Krab" was replaced with the letter C.
• This episode should have been the next episode after Help Wanted since the narrator says the he has been recently hired.
• In this episode Plankton's eyelid is dark green, but in most episodes, his eyelid is the same color as his skin.
• On some versions, instead of saying "the secret formula is...," it says "the secret formula i..."
• In the very beginning, the menu sign called "Galley Grub". In the Galley Grub, "Krusty Supreme" misspelled as "Krusty Suprem" , there's no price for "Krusty Supreme", and the text is distorted.
• The narrator says the Krusty Krab closes at 6:00pm. However, in The Graveyard Shift, the Krusty Krab closes at 8:00pm.
• Although SpongeBob seems to be learning how to make a Krabby Patty for the first time here, in "Help Wanted" he is able to make them with ease before being officially hired. However, it is most likely that this is a video for new employees and SpongeBob is the "bus boy", but is just acting.
• Plankton's voice is higher-pitched in this episode when he is being tossed out, but in all others he can be understood.
• When SpongeBob is seen in "Personal Hygiene", much soap appears, but there was never actually a soap bar, but there could be a soap dispenser somewhere.
• In the second montage of still photos of the Krusty Krab, the ninth picture shows the menu which has "Krabby Patty" misspelled as "Krabby Pattie". This picture looks very similar to the one seen on Pickles.
• In Bahasa Indonesia version, when Patrick shocked after hearing the word "customer", that word was never translated into Indonesian word, "pelanggan". However, in other episodes, the word "customer" is translated.
• The graph, which shows the financial performance of the Krusty Krab has the axis featuring the profits inverted, so the Krusty Krab's profits are actually going down.
