The episode begins with Frank the policeman showing a new cop around the prison. He then showed him the number one inmate who was Plankton who went to prison for stealing the Krabby Patty formula. However, due to the fact that his cell wasn't locked, he snuck under Frank's mustache and escaped (the mustache becoming Plankton's hair). He returns to the Chum Bucket only for Karen to kick him out for unknown reasons and gave him his old guitar. Plankton then hears SpongeBob singing about the Krabby Patty while censoring out the ingredients with weird noises. Plankton asks him to sing it uncensored, however SpongeBob thinks he wants him to join a band due to his long hair and guitar. Plankton roles with it in hopes of steeling the formula. SpongeBob then runs into Patrick who just found out where boogers came from. SpongeBob then decides to let Patrick join due to his ability to play his stomach like a drum. Squidward then began criticizing them due to their lack of musical talent. However when asked to join, he accepts with the thought of becoming famous. SpongeBob, Patrick, and Plankton then start practicing while Squidward worked out to look good. SpongeBob told Patrick that he should dress more pizzazz to look better for the band. He then showed SpongeBob his ponytail that he grew naturally. He then did tricks with his hair, and grew more hair and sideburns. Plankton returned with band shirts naming their band "Plankton and the Patty Steelers". Despite this, they were still oblivious to Plankton's true intentions. Patrick asked for his in pink (to Plankton's dismay) and claimed it looked like a tattoo. They then started working on music. SpongeBob asked if the song could start off making a buzzard sound and end with a squeaking sound. Plankton agreed. Patrick kept Squidward's seat warm while Plankton took out his "recording equipment" to try and record SpongeBob's Krabby Patty song, but he was unable to find it and his equipment overloaded when Patrick wore the headphones and acted stupid while doing it. Plankton broke down crying as his plan failed, but SpongeBob gave him hope as Mr. Krabs was letting them play at the Krusty Krab after hours. Meanwhile now having achieved his "Perfect Dream Body" Squidward finally went to practice. A week later they were on their way to the Krusty Krab when a cop showed up. Plankton told SpongeBob to hid him saying that cops were "autograph hounds". SpongeBob hid plankton in his nose. The cop questioned where they were headed to and noticed a booger in SpongeBob's nose, however drove off. Plankton demanded that he would never speak of it to anyone. The arrived at the Krusty Krab where Plankton unlocked the door. Plankton immediately started searching for the formula. However SpongeBob then noticed this and realized that the band was only to steal it. Cops then came and arrested Plankton. Now bald again they gave him a new cell inside a safe. SpongeBob Patrick and Squidward then visited him in prison saying that when he got out in 22 years would be their next performance. The episode ends with them practicing and Plankton being tortured by it.
Plankton breaks out of jail and arrives back at the Chum Bucket, only to be kicked out by an angry Karen. He then sees SpongeBob who is singing a song about the Krabby Patty. Plankton then plots on stealing the formula by asking SpongeBob the words of his song. When he does, SpongeBob thinks that Plankton wants him to join his band. SpongeBob goes to Patrick to see if he wants to join too. Plankton agrees so before Squidward comes outside and SpongeBob asks him to join their band. Squidward at first turns down the offer but changes his mind to the thought of being famous. Then, SpongeBob and Patrick go to SpongeBob's garage to prepare themselves for their first gig at the Krusty Krab. While they're doing that, Squidward lifts weights until he gets his "dream body". One of Plankton's attempts of stealing the recipe is using a brain-searcher on SpongeBob, disguising it as recording equipment. 1 week later they start heading to the Krusty Krab. A cop comes and Plankton hides in SpongeBob's nose until the cop leaves. They finally arrive at the Krusty Krab and Plankton goes to steal the Krabby Patty Secret Formula, but SpongeBob catches him and realizes the band was just a front. Plankton goes to jail again and gets locked in a cell right in front of the jail yard, where SpongeBob and the others, revealed to be on the yard outside the jail, claims they "have 22 years until their next gig." The last thing the viewer hears is Plankton groaning loudly as the boys are playing in their band.
