"Growth Spout" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season seven. In this episode, Pearl goes through her growth spout.

Mr. Krabs is about to brush his teeth, when suddenly a gray cork is pushed in, and the toothpaste cap falls off of the sink. Pearl calls for help, and when Mr. Krabs goes upstairs, he can see Pearl growing rapidly. Pearl needs food because she is, as it seems, going through a growth spurt. He finds the fridge, brings it upstairs, and Pearl eats the entire fridge, but it isn't enough. After Pearl threatens to eat Mr. Krabs' money, Mr. Krabs then sneaks into Mrs. Puff's garden and steals all of her peanut worms, thinking they are peanuts, to feed Pearl, but realizes they are not peanuts when they start spitting up on him. Mr. Krabs tries to escape but Mrs. Puff hits the fence piece Mr. Krabs is on with a crowbar, sending Mr. Krabs flying away from her. He then looks in Patrick's house for food, and finds food made out of sand. It then crumples. Mr. Krabs finds Patrick sleeping in his cereal and steals the cereal. After feeding it to Pearl, she still wants more food. Mr. Krabs then goes into Squidward's house and steals all of his food, and feeds it to Pearl, but she still yells for more, so he goes to SpongeBob's house and is about to get some food when SpongeBob notices. Squidward then comes in and explains that Mr. Krabs is a food thief. He is about to call the cops until Mr. Krabs gives him his gold tooth, and Squidward walks out of the house. Mr. Krabs cries and tells SpongeBob that he wants to feed his daughter. Later at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob makes a Krabby Patty that tastes like a million. Pearl stops growing and SpongeBob tells Mr. Krabs that love was the secret ingredient. Mr. Krabs laughs then stops soon realizing that SpongeBob was right.

  • As of August 19, 2016, The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) gives this episode a rating of 5/10 based on 123 ratings by users.[1] users give this episode a 7.2/10 based on 146 votes.[2]

  • At the beginning Mr. Krabs says "growth spout," but at the end when he is talking to SpongeBob he says "growth spurt," like it should be said.
  • The title card of this episode is the only one with whales in the background.
    • There appear to be 16 whales on the title card.
  • This is the fourth time Squidward's house came to life, first time in being was in "The Secret Box," the second time was in "Funny Pants," the third being "Good Neighbors," and the fifth will be "A Friendly Game."
  • Pearl actually hated eating Krabby Patties, but this time, she loved it (it is noticeable in episode "Bossy Boots"). Also, in "Whale of a Birthday," Pearl said that Krabby Patties are gross. However, in this episode, she willingly eats one. This may just be because she thought that the statue in "Whale of a Birthday" was gross because it was made out of raw Krabby Patties.
  • The song that Mr. Krabs sings is similar to My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, and it played in the episode "Sleepy Time."
  • This episode had a rerun with "Gullible Pants."
  • It is unknown how Squidward knows that Mr. Krabs stole all of his food, it could be possible he woke up and he noticed his food is gone.
  • SpongeBob only appeared in the final two scenes of this episode, making it his fifth-shortest span of screen time on the show, after "Rise and Shine," "New Leaf," "Plankton's Army," and "Mall Girl Pearl."
  • This is the second time where someone has been able to sense that something was going on in real life while they were sleeping, in this case it is Mrs. Puff while Mr. Krabs is looting her garden. The first time was Mr. Krabs in "Krabs à la Mode" when Plankton is touching his thermostat.
  • This episode takes place in October because of Officer John saying to Mr. Krabs, who claims that he is practicing to be Santa Claus, "Be seeing you in a couple of months."
    • This also means that this episode takes place after "Christmas Who?" because they know who Santa is.

Cultural references

  • When Mr. Krabs runs in front of the policeman, their vehicle has only 3 tires instead of four.
  • When Mr. Krabs spots SpongeBob's pineapple, Squidward and Patrick's houses are absent from the scene.
  • In the beginning, Pearl's fin grew. However, when we saw a full-bodied Pearl, she was normal before the growth spout happened.
  • Pearl's feet grow up at the start of the episode. However, she is wearing her boots at the Krusty Krab.
  • When Mr. Krabs says "I'm coming, princess!" when he runs out the door, Pearl's fin leaves the bathroom.
  • When the police leave Mrs. Puff's house, the peanut worms are gone.
