So upon reviewing the rules (that I have had a great hand in creating) I believe we must lighten them up and embrace a more socially geared community and I want to start by asking the community what they have in mind. I think that we should completely remove our current set of rules and disband them completely and in turn make the process democratically based. Modifications of the Rules
No personal attacks - don't be rude, don't criticize people or else you will be blocked for 6 months. If you continue this behavior after your banishment, you will be blocked forever.
No vandalism - don't vandalize, which means don't make nonsense edits or remove good quality content from articles, or else you will be blocked forever.
No spam - no spamming or else you will be blocked forever.
No fanon - don't add your fan made episodes or any other content. A SpongeBob Fanon Wiki already exists here.
Forums are for the Wiki - When using the forums make sure that the topic presented has something relevant to the topic of the Wiki, not doing so will result in warnings or in severe cases blocks or bans. MODIFICATION: Allow discussion of the show.
Quiz's are forbidden - Quiz's, unless officially sanctioned by the sysops, are forbidden from any where on the Wiki, that includes userspaces.
Userspace Blanking forbidden - The act of blanking ones userspace is forbidden unless to indicate that one wants their userspace deleted or a sysop blanks it (sysops are not exempt from this rule, however they are allowed to delete their own userspace, talk page and all). Deleting a userpage is ok, deleting a talk page is only done in extreme cases.
Communication is key - If a sysops or another editor requests you speak to them it is best to do so, if you do not you will be blocked for no longer than 3 months and no less then 2 days, however your talk page will be open unless specified why it shouldn't. You are given two weeks to respond for a minor issue and only two days for a major. If you edit more than twenty times during that wait time you will be considered ignoring and given (depending on what you did during that time) a block of two days to three months
Blogs - Due to misuse and off topic posts blog use has been strictly forbidden. This is a wiki and is not a social center. Only the administration is permitted to use a blog any other person who uses a blog without express permission from the administration will be given warnings for the first three offense and then blocked for a maximum of two months depending on how the blog was used.
Facts are facts and nothing else matters - Only add if you know it is true. Speculation is forbidden.
Don't add logic to the humor - Never add logic to the humor (I.E. How can fire be under water?)
Don't ask for tools - Never ask for the Sysops, B'crat, Rollbacker or any other similar tool directly. Ask here and make sure you qualify.
It's not our problem - It's not our problem what religion, sexual preference or whatever else you are, this is a wiki and our only goal is to build up a knowledge base and what you are offline doesn't matter. You are exactly like everyone else an editor and a user. Discrimination is strongly forbidden and there is no such thing as a minor offense, you will be blocked forever for discrimination of any form. Also, we strongly advise that you not mention your religion, sexual preference or anything else. A minor bio is all that is needed, however we will never stop you unless we feel that a problem will arise from comments made.
You don't have a userspace - You do not own your userspace, it's given to you to help people know you better, if we feel something isn't appropriate, it's gone. You also can't forbidden anyone from leaving you a message on your talk page
Age - If you are under the age of 13 you should not reveal your age, if you do so you could be blocked for an extended amount of time or you could be banned. In addition the offending posts or whatever will be deleted either by the administration or the Wikia staff.
Watch your tongue - Keep it PG-13, however if possible we'd like it to be PG. MODIFICATION: I recommend leaning toward PG, basically forbidding profanity and naughty stuff.
We're not Myspace or Facebook - Don't treat this like a place to make friends, it's not. You edit and be productive or you get it. You are allowed to make friends, however extended conversations must be held via email. The forums reserved for occasional talk. This also includes creating, clubs, teams or cabals as they can cause major friction and a form of competition. (You are allowed to create teams as long as they focus on improving the Wiki like the anti-vandal team at Wikipedia) MODIFICATION: Keep discussions of SpongeBob stuff only.
Teams, Clubs and Cabals -Only allow SpongeBob-related discussions. if the club, team or cabal has a goal of improving the wiki like fighting vandalism it can be allowed. However that does not grant you any extra powers or privilege. In addition you may hold competitions only if they are to encourage improving the wiki (Like see who can make the most notable and good articles) with the prize being that you have helped the wiki improve (Barnstars are allowed ((Basically awards))).
Forums and conversations - Try to have at least 10 major edits (very large productive changes or productive new pages) between each forum post and try your best to not double post.
Ignore it if it gets in the way - Most importantly, all rules (Not personal attack related) can be ignored if they impede with the progress of the Wiki.
This is not Wikipedia - please do not create links to articles that do not exist and do not pertain to SpongeBob. Also, please do not create articles that have nothing to do with SpongeBob.
Multiple Accounts - You are allowed ONE account. If you are caught using more than one account you can be blocked for up to 6 months up to forever. However you are allowed to have up to 3 other accounts if you need one for public use. But you MUST identify yourself as the owner of the accounts on the account talk pages and your main account.
Do not use the words "We and I" - This creates confusion between users and the articles, so do not add them.
Only the admin - The admin are the only ones allowed to inform a user that they have been blocked or banned. So you know, a ban lasts forever, a block is temporary. You are NOT BANNED if you have been blocked for three days, you ARE BANNED if you have been blocked forever. Also, only the administration represent this community. Do not at any time act like you are a representative. Note: We need to figure out who represents the community. Who is our founder?
I like your proposal, I like it a lot actually. However I think we should keep rule 17 and just tweak it to be more open to social activity but make it clear not to let it get in the way. Also rule 16, yes, PG would be for the best. But we'll also have to define what is not good and what is good as cursing is different in every culture. Some things that are offensive here in the US won't be so in the UK for example. Like the word "fag" is offensive here, whereas it means "cigarette" in the UK and "queer" or "gay" mean "Strange" and "Happy" respectively. You accidentally put the PG modification next to rule 17. Rule 24 should also be tweaked, I added that as it was getting really bad with people thinking that any random person represented the Wiki. However the wording now seems too strong. - Rgoodermote 04:18, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Absolutely no single person should claim to be able to represent any wiki. The community is what represents the wiki. Also, we are a wiki- an encyclopedia-, and we should censor nothing if it is notable. ( I oppose keeping the wiki PG. If you signed up to edit this wiki and were under 13, you did so at your own risk. We should of course have a disclaimer for IPs, though, who have no age minimum to edit.) The controversy about SpongeBob's... uh... specialness... is a very real controversy and it shouldn't have been removed from the article. Dave Lopo (Talk) 17:12, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
Comment: That last clause was placed there simply because we had a spat of people claiming to be representatives and it was causing chaos. Having that kept everything from going overboard. There was a plan to implement a community run system (that operated on the same premise of Arbcom on Wikipedia) that would give the community full representation. However we never were able to get people to become organized enough to do so. In addition I'll implement these changes. Ummm, don't mean to butt in with my second post, but if we keep it PG-rated, that's not really good, considering movies like The Bad News Bears had cussing and stuff that I wouldn't think would be suitable for this wiki. Ponyo Fan 23:17, April 25, 2010 (UTC) (make that third)
You're free to butt in, we want more people to butt in actually. But anyways, the rating is more or less directed toward user commentary and less about the articles which can..as it has already been pointed out..have some interesting things in them due to certain controversies. So really the PG should be defined more along the lines of a user conduct thing. I mean, we're doing something for children here and even if they hear swears we do not want to further encourage them and make it seem appropriate. - Rgoodermote 03:17, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure who would be considered the founder; I know that someone requested that this Wiki be made back in 2005, but it was denied. I requested it twice in 2006, but I was also rejected. In 2007, a new, easier system of creating wikis was created; User:Haldir requested it and it was created, but has only edited 10 times. After Haldir was inactive, I brought the articles here from Wikipedia after their existence was threatened during the "Episode Article Crisis of '07." This wiki is merely a continuation of Wikipedia articles plus some, and with a different group of contributors. I don't know; who founded this? What to do?
I just found an instance of a username that used profanity. I really don't know what to do, as the rules don't specify the bad-ness of profanity or what to do about it.
