The game has two players, and on the board are four eels and three real escalator pieces, and has a start and finish line.

Rules
- The rules are if the player rolls 2 eels then they move down the board towards the eels. If the player rolls 2 escalators then they go up the escalators.
- If the player gets 4 eels, they lose. If the player gets 3 escalators, they win.
Role in series
In "Sailor Mouth," SpongeBob and Patrick are playing the game at SpongeBob's house after they learn about the bad word and promise they would not say it. SpongeBob keeps rolling eels while Patrick keeps rolling escalators. After SpongeBob loses the game, he uses bad word number 11. Patrick goes to tell Mr. Krabs but he accidentally also says the bad word, and they both race to the Krusty Krab to tell Mr. Krabs about each other.
In "SpongeBob's Place," it can be seen on the floor of SpongeBob's house when SpongeBob is bored.
In "Plankton Gets the Boot," it can be seen on the floor of SpongeBob's house when SpongeBob and Plankton are watching a movie.

- Eels and Escalators is an parody of the real life board game, Snakes and Ladders.
- In "Sailor Mouth" Patrick says Eels and Escalators is his favorite game, but in "Good Ol' Whatshisname," he says it's Parcheesi.
- It is possible that both games are his favorite.
- It is also possible that one of them was his favorite until he learned about the other game.
