Introduction

In early years of the wiki, we never had an official deletion process. In September 2011, I started the Articles for deletion page, but there weren't many discussions as not many people were involved, although some of the discussions had a lot of debate. Now that the wiki has grown so much, and the fact that we have had some deletion discussions, I thought I would create a proposal to establish a process. This partly stems from the Unneeded articles discussion, which has gone nowhere. We also had a discussion on unneeded categories, which resulted in many of them lacking consensus. This process I am proposing is kind of like discussions, except one thing: neutral votes do not count.

For years administrators have deleted articles without much discussion. We did have a few AFD discussions in the past, but due to the growth of the wiki, we need some sort of AFD process much like Wikipedia for the following reasons:

  • 1. Establish a proper deletion policy
  • 2. Move discussion of deletion matters of a particular article to one location
  • 3. Prevent disputes between editors
  • 4. Encourage actual discussion on whether or not to delete certain articles
  • 5. Prevent controversial deletion of articles

Of course administrators can go ahead and delete an article without discussion if there isn't controversy. Additionally, it allows for discussion on particular articles that made help in organization (such as merging articles as opposed to deleting). This is just to establish an alternative way of discussion whether or not anything (articles, categories, templates, etc.) should be deleted or not.

This discussion will end on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 4 p.m., eastern time. — AMK152 (Wall • Contrib) 21:01, March 1, 2015 (UTC)

Proposal

The proposal is as follows:

  • A. General
  • 1. This is an optional process; administrators can delete anything they believe is necessary
  • 2. Anyone can nominate an article the feel should be deleted.
  • B. Process
  • 1. Fill out a form to create a deletion discussion.
  • 2. Once the discussion is created, the nominator must explain why they feel the article should be deleted.
  • 3. A discussion will occur, centered on that particular article, template, category, etc.
  • 4. Neutral votes do not count in the final tally for concensus (75%)
