Introduction

A couple of months ago, a proposal was passed to change the name scheme of titles. I, an expert in grammar, unfortunately agreed to it thinking that it was what the correct titling scheme. However, I oversaw that it was in fact not the case. The current naming scheme is that all proper nouns and first letters of the title are capitalized and nothing else. This is not accurate to a title.

Proposal

My proposed system, AKA the correct system, involves the following rules:

1. Capitalize the first and last word 2. Capitalize nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and subordinate conjunctions. 3. Lowercase articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions, and prepositions. 4. Lowercase the "to" in an infinitive (I want to play guitar).

If you need help you can use this website: http://titlecapitalization.com/#

It automatically corrects the title as you type it.

There is an important rule that I feel would not ruin the title that is that all words after a slash (not including episode titles) and all words in parentheses (not including episode titles) are lowercase.

I would like to point out that it would apply to every page except templates (this includes category pages).

    • We are not Wikipedia. We should not follow Wikipedia. We should be are own website. 120d  Talk  Contribs  23:53, July 17, 2014 (UTC)
  • Template:Extremely Strong Oppose per the reasons I listed here: ESB:Discussions/Page titles and headers. This was already discussed, I don't think it's necessary to discuss it again. An additional reason is URLs. For long names, URLs would have capitals and someone who might memorize a page name by typing it in would have to guess which words are capitalized if they were not proper nouns. Also, capitalizing words in titles that way would, even in a very small amount, contribute to article content being like that. We shouldn't have to bring up old topics if one person doesn't agree. Comments

  • Would this apply to the first bolded mentioning of the word?

Example: Title: Plankton's Cousins
Text: Plankton's cousins...

  • It would because it is the title of the subject, so it deserves to be capitalized on its first mentioning.  120d  Talk  Contribs  23:41, July 17, 2014 (UTC)
  • What Bureaucrat is endorsing this discussion? I'd like more information on this before making my decision. Not saying I oppose this though. I genneraly use this already. WolfWink_L.gif Auron May the odds be ever in your favor! Ammy.gif   02:38,8/23/2015
  • The word "cousins" is not a proper noun, so it shouldn't be capitalized. AMK152 (Wall • Contrib) 02:03, July 18, 2014 (UTC)

  • A side note, you claim that you are a grammar expert, but here you didn't regard the use of quotes as the proper usage, when in fact it was, and such a discussion established this. When you say "AKA the correct system," you are implying that you are correct and everyone else is wrong. You are basically going against community consensus.
