— David Hasselhoff in "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout"
Character

David Hasselhoff (born July 17, 1952; age 71) is an actor who takes SpongeBob and Patrick back to Bikini Bottom in the climax of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. He is best known for starring in the NBC series Baywatch and the 1980s science-fiction television series Knight Rider.

Role in series[]

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie[]

After SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally release the magical bag of winds, David Hasselhoff arrives and takes them to Bikini Bottom. While SpongeBob and Patrick ride on Hasselhoff, a fisherman looks at them and falls to the sea. Suddenly, Patrick notices the bigger boot moving towards them and Dennis emerges from the boot when it reaches Hasselhoff. Dennis then swats Patrick away, who tells SpongeBob to flee from Dennis, who stabs Hasselhoff's butt in the process. After Dennis is defeated, Hasselhoff places SpongeBob and Patrick on his pecs that turn to launchers to send them back to Bikini Bottom. Hasselhoff celebrates after sending SpongeBob and Patrick back home but he gets burnt by King Neptune.

"SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout"[]

He makes two cameos. He first appears kayaking, when the French Narrator's submarine knocks him over, to which he replies "Tartar sauce!"

He is then seen on the beach at the end of the episode where he sees the submarine again, this time thinking it is amazing, but then the tour bus runs over his feet. Patchy and Potty then show up, and Hasselhoff accuses Patchy of running over his feet, pulling Patchy's hat down, and then he goes to live in a volcano as he thinks it is safer than the beach.

At the end of the episode, he can be seen wishing SpongeBob a happy birthday.

Biography[]

He is also very famous outside of the SpongeBob SquarePants world. He seems to be part cyborg or android, as he is able to propel himself forward without swimming, like a motorboat. His pectorals extend outward, allowing him to place SpongeBob, Patrick, and King Neptune's crown in between them so they can reach Bikini Bottom in time.

Role in video games[]

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game[]

Console[]

His role in the video game is identical to his role in the film. He appears in the level "Dennis Strikes Back!" After SpongeBob and Patrick get King Neptune's crown and a lift from David Hasselhoff, the Cyclops' boot returns, along with Dennis, prompting another boss level from him.

Game Boy Advance version[]

He appears in the levels "Hold the Hasselhoff" and "The Return of Dennis."

PC version[]

Even though David Hasselhoff appears both in the movie as well as the console version of the game, he is not directly mentioned in the PC game. His character is rather referred to as "......" even though he only appears on one artwork. This artwork at the end of chapter 7, "Shell City," shows a silhouette of a cartoon version of Hasselhoff.

Trivia[]

Poster of a cut storyline of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run featuring David Hasselhoff.

  • He appears but never has his name said aloud in the video game adaptation of the movie, likely due to complications with acquiring the personality rights for the game.
    • This is also likely the reason his name is replaced by ellipses in the PC version of this game, and why SpongeBob almost mentions his name but is interrupted by Squidward in SpongeBob's Truth or Square.
    • Interestingly, Jim Ward voices him in the console versions instead himself.
    • Curiously, his name is used in the Game Boy Advanced version of the movie game.
