I am going to make this announcement short. I have investigated the events involving 120d and the rest of the community between October 3, 2014 and November 25, 2014. I have reviewed countless edits, wiki logs, message threads, chat logs, and Skype logs and came up with a report. If you are interested in the details, go here: User:AMK152/Investigation/120d. That being said, here is the conclusion to the report:
- 1. We already know the details, so I will just say this. 120d is a hardworking and dedicated contributor to ESB. Yes, there were conflicts in the past, back in the spring of 2014. However, it is important that we put the past behind us and move on. Yes, 120d can be vocal about certain issues, but that doesn't mean he should be silenced. Same goes for everyone else and I told this to 120d: you can voice your opinion on topics, as long as you remain civil and don't use any personal attacks or break any other rules.
- 2. We are a community of editors. It is important that we treat everyone with fairness and respect. This means the community should be welcoming to users, their ideas, etc. When 120d returned in early October 2014, there was some unneeded disappointment of his return and that people assumed the drama would return. However, those who assumed the drama would return are the users who escalated the situation far too much.
- 3. 120d was treated very badly despite few violations. Most of the time he was defending himself. Too many people talked about him badly behind his back, and most was due to not letting go of the past. We need to not make these mistakes again. There is a reason that 120d was not blocked infinitely. Whether is is today, tomorrow, next month, or 2 months from now, the return of 120d to editing is going to happen and we need not escalate the situation to what it was.
- 4. 120d and I have exchanged over 150 e-mails during the past several weeks. He has aired out his concerns, some of which I agree and some of which I wholeheartedly disagree with. I have talked to him about the issues and events that led to his block and we have resolved many of those issues. Needless to say, everyone has a voice, 120d included. I have told 120d about many things he needs to accept things the way the community decides and other things I have learned and come up with new ideas on how to improve the wiki.
- 5. Ultimately, when it comes down to 120d's block, it is important to make sure the blocking policy was followed:
- On October 26, 2014, 120d made two personal attacks. For two offenses, this yields a maximum 14 day block per the blocking policy.
- On November 15, 2014, 120d violated the 3RR by reverting the article 5 times. Per the 3RR policy, this yields a 1 day block.
- Like I said in the introduction, I have sifted through everything, and I know there were more violations against 120d than what 120d actually committed. Given this and the fact that he was treated extremely unfairly, the above blocks I find appropriate.
- 6. In conclusion, 120d's proper block is 15 days for the violations outlined in #5. He has already been blocked for 36 days, which is much longer than the 15 days required by the blocking policy.
- 7. I will now unblock 120d and hope that the community can put the past behind and we can all move on.
