I will not name names, but I am getting very upset with certain recent comments lately. This goes for User of the Month.
If a person doesn't socialize a lot, What does that have to do with their contributions?
I mean, someone could make several great contributions to improving content, barely socialize, and then some people will be like "I have no idea who you are so I don't think you should get UOTM." or "You don't have a Skype account and chat with us so I oppose."
What does this have to do with contributing to content-building?"
There is a million things wrong with this. There are several contributors who have been making great edits while you are busy socializing in the chat room or Skype. Then, you don't want to award them for their hard work. How is ESB suppose to improve if we don't acknowledge those with great contributions?
UOTM is NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST.
User of the Month was specificially designed to recognize those in the community who have been a great help to adding content and improving the wiki. There are some users who socialize the same amount as someone lesser known in social circles may contribute to content-building.
If they are not socializing as much, it means they are working on building content in the wiki.
When you go to a UOTM nomination. LOOK AT THE NOMINATOR'S REASONS. THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON. You don't know who they are? If I nominated them for UOTM, I JUST TOLD YOU WHO THEY ARE!
There is also this fancy link called "contribs" on EVERY NOMINATION.
CLICK "CONTRIBS" AND LOOK AT THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
If you never heard of them and they are nominated, you should look closer to see why they were nominated.
THEY WERE NOMINATED FOR A REASON.
Do not treat UOTM like a bureaucrat request. Treat it as an award to those helping the wiki.
Now, please go to ESB:UOTM, click on the nominations, LOOK AT THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS, and give your input BASED ON CONTRIBUTIONS.
