The Bikini Bottom Jail, also known as the Bikini Bottom Prison, is a governmental institution in Bikini Bottom as seen occasionally in the series. It was first seen in the episode "Hall Monitor."

The building is two stories high, with an over-sized ball-and-chain attached to it. The prison features a rock crushing yard, cafeteria, and the jail cells. The inmates do many activities, such as crushing rocks, lifting weights, and making wire coat hangers and license plates. There have been many instances that involved some main characters going to jail.

Features

• A large pile of rocks Mrs. Puff was seen smashing during the episode "Doing Time."
• A giant "cannonball" weight attached to the main building.
• A robot computer SpongeBob used in "The Battle of Bikini Bottom."
• A seemingly bottomless extra security cell Plankton was seen in in "Krabby Road."
• A solitary confinement room supposedly made of sponge. (This may not be entirely accurate as Mrs. Puff was delusional at the time.)
• A coat hanger factory. (This may be a reference to the cliché of a license plate factory being in prisons.)
• A plankton-sized prison cell, actually a safe, seen in "Krabby Road."
• A cafeteria that supposedly only serves chili.
• A water supply that supposedly contains high amounts of uranium. (This may be a reference to the recent worry of mercury-contaminated water. This may also be a reference that Bikini Atoll, the location of Bikini Bottom was the site of 67 nuclear tests done by the U.S. government in the 1940s and 50's.)
• Clear glass communication windows.
• A supply of novelty lollipops, as seen in "Life of Crime."
• This building appears to be smaller on the outside than it is on the inside.

Inmates

• SpongeBob SquarePants was in Jail in two (three if its a dream) episodes: "Driven to Tears," "Life of Crime," and ("Doing Time if its a dream. Although he is not seen in jail in that episode.)"

• Patrick Star was in Jail in three episodes: "SpongeBob Meets the Strangler", "Good Ol' Whatshisname", "Life of Crime" and "The Executive Treatment".

• Mrs. Puff has been in jail in "Hall Monitor," "No Free Rides," "Ditchin'", "Summer Job," and "Doing Time." In "Hall Monitor" and "Doing Time", Mrs. Puff was sent to jail because SpongeBob destroyed Bikini Bottom. In "No Free Rides," she stole SpongeBob's new boatmobile and crashed it into a police car. In "Summer Job", she was going to be sent to a Stoney Lonesome in the same outfit as "Hall Monitor". And in "Ditchin'", she was sent to jail because she skipped Jury Duty. It was also implied that she was going to jail in "Patrick-Man!" Patrick thought she was breaking into a boatmobile (when in reality, she was trying to help one of her students was locked inside and couldn't get out.). He threw a net over her, and left a note which read "Kops-This is boat theef". She was thrown into a paddy wagon, and one of the police asked her if she remembered what a felony was. She was also shown to be arrested in "Bumper to Bumper," after violating house-arrest.

• Squidward Tentacles has been in jail in "Good Ol' Whatshisname" and "Krabby Road." He went to jail in Good Ol' Whatshisname for stealing Mr. What Zit Tooya's wallet. He was also sent to jail for no reason in "Fiasco!" Squidward was also arrested and sent to jail for impersonating Squilliam Fancyson in "Professor Squidward."

• Tattletale Strangler was in jail in "SpongeBob Meets the Strangler." He was wanted for strangling tattletales.

• Sheldon J. Plankton was in jail in "Krabby Road." He had attempted to steal the Krabby Patty; this is his first time seen in jail. He also got arrested in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, "Sweet and Sour Squid," "Fiasco!," and "Jailbreak!"

Trivia

• Although he has been arrested many times, Mr. Krabs has never been actually shown in jail. This also goes for Sandy, who has only been arrested once (twice in a deleted scene) so far.
• Each main character (except Gary) has been arrested at least once.
• In "Summer Job," it is shown that SpongeBob teaches boating lessons there.
